Well, I heard folks talkin’ ’bout Stan Van Gundy’s home a lot lately. Now, let me tell ya, this ain’t no small cabin in the woods or a shack by the creek. No, sir! This here is a big ol’ house, the kind ya can’t miss. It’s what folks in the city call a “Queen Anne Victorian,” which sounds fancy, but really it’s just a big ol’ house with lots of rooms and those fancy windows that look all curvy and pretty-like.
Stan, he’s been a big name in basketball for a long time, coached a lotta teams, and even had some time with the New Orleans Pelicans. I reckon he’s been in this house for a good while too, bought it back in 2014. He and his wife Kim, they put a lotta work into it, fixed it up real nice. Took ’em a year or so to get it all spruced up, I hear. But they didn’t just stop there, no sir. They made it a real showplace, you know? This house ain’t just for livin’, it’s like one of them show-off kinda places folks look at and say, “Wow, that’s where the Van Gundy’s live?”
Well, come 2021, Stan decided to put that big ol’ house on the market. Said goodbye to it and listed it for a pretty penny—$2.4 million! Now, I don’t know ’bout you, but that’s a lot of money! And ya know what? It didn’t take too long for it to get snapped up. The house finally sold for just under $2 million, which is still a heap of money, I’d say. Ain’t nobody can say Stan didn’t make a good deal there.
Now, this ain’t just any old house. Oh no, it sits on 2 acres of land in a place called Independence Township, Michigan. The house was built back in 1980, so it’s got some age to it, but from what I hear, it don’t look like it. When Stan and Kim bought it, they made sure it had all them modern comforts, all the things that make a house fancy these days. Big ol’ kitchens, plenty of room for guests, a backyard that could probably fit a whole herd of cattle if you needed it to. It was the kind of house where, if ya walked in, you’d feel like you was walkin’ into a magazine.
But, I gotta tell ya, there’s more to this story than just a fancy house. Stan’s life has had its fair share of heartbreak too. Ya see, not too long ago, he had to face a terrible loss. His wife Kim passed away. And, I don’t mean to make things sad, but she took her own life. That’s a heavy thing to carry, and I can’t even imagine what that musta been like for him. I heard him talkin’ about it on some interview, and well, you could tell it was somethin’ that weighed on him real bad. Life ain’t always fair, is it?
But despite all that, Stan’s made a name for himself in basketball. He’s been the head coach for the New Orleans Pelicans, coached the Detroit Pistons, and even worked with the Orlando Magic. Folks in the basketball world know him well, but not just for his coaching. Stan’s also been on the TV, talkin’ basketball and sharing his thoughts with the world. It’s safe to say, the man knows his stuff when it comes to the game. But it’s also clear, from all the things he’s been through, that he’s a man who knows life ain’t always easy, and sometimes, things get a bit too much to bear.
So, if ya ever get a chance to take a look at Stan Van Gundy’s house, or even just hear about it, remember it’s more than just a fancy piece of property. It’s a place where a man lived, loved, and faced all kinds of challenges. And now, it’s someone else’s turn to call it home. That’s how life goes sometimes. Folks come, folks go, and things change. But that big ol’ house out in Michigan, well, it’ll always be a part of Stan’s story, whether it’s with him or someone else. And that’s somethin’ worth rememberin’.
