Well, let me tell you, this holier-than-thou crossword thing is a real head-scratcher. It ain’t like picking beans, that’s for sure. These crossword puzzles, they’re all the rage these days, folks say it’s good for your brain or somethin’. Keep ya sharp, they say. But I tell ya, sometimes it just makes my head spin.

I just know how to make a good apple pie.

Forty different words that mean the same thing as this “holier-than-thou” business. I reckon that’s a lot of words, ain’t it? One of the solutions folks was talkin’ about was “SANCTIMONIOUS”. Now that’s a mouthful, ain’t it? Other words was “SMUG”, “PIOUS”, and “PREACHY”.
- SMUG – That’s a word I heard before. Four letters, just like they was sayin’.
- PIOUS – This one’s got five letters. Seems like a church word, don’t it?
- PREACHY – Seven letters in this one. Reminds me of that long-winded preacher down the road.
Some people, they just think they’re better than everybody else. That’s what this “holier-than-thou” is all about, I reckon. Think they’re closer to God or somethin’. Like that Mrs. Higgins down the street, always lookin’ down her nose at folks. She’d probably know all the answers to this crossword puzzle, that one.

Sometimes, if you get one word, it helps you get the others. Like, they cross each other, see? That’s why it’s called a crossword puzzle!
If you ain’t sure ’bout a word, just write it in light with a pencil. That way, you can erase it if it’s wrong. And then you look at the other clues around it, see if any of them fit with the letters you got. It’s like a little puzzle, piecin’ it all together.

One of them puzzle things said that “Holier-than-thou type” was a clue in the crossword. And it was in one of them fancy newspaper puzzles, too. They said the answer is “↓31”. I don’t know what that means, but maybe it’s some kind of code. These puzzle people, they got their own language, I swear.
