Okay, here is my story about calculating the average height of NFL wide receivers.
So, the other day I was watching football with my buddies, and we got into this debate about how tall wide receivers are. One of my friends, he’s a huge stats guy, swore they were all giants. Me, I wasn’t so sure. I mean, I know they’re tall, but giants? Come on.
So, like any normal person would do, I decided to figure it out myself. Not to like, prove my friend wrong or anything… Okay, maybe a little. But mostly, I was just curious.
First, I needed to get some data. I figured the NFL’s website would have that stuff, right? Well, after some serious clicking around – their website is a bit of a maze, honestly – I finally found a list of all the players, with their positions and heights. Sweet!
Next, I had to weed out the wide receivers from the rest of the players. It was a long list, let me tell you. I just copied the whole thing into a spreadsheet to make things easier. There’s gotta be an easier way to do this, but I just did it one by one.
Once I had my list of wide receivers, it was time to do some math. Nothing too fancy, just adding up all their heights and then dividing by the number of wide receivers. You know, basic average stuff. I used my trusty spreadsheet program to do the calculations because, let’s be real, my math skills are a bit rusty.
The Result?
- I found out that the average height of an NFL wide receiver is… drumroll, please… about 6 feet 1 inch! I couldn’t believe my eyes. These people are tall!
- I did this just to prove my friend was right. Turns out I was wrong.
- It’s kind of interesting, though, right? I mean, they’re definitely taller than the average person, but not quite as tall as I would have guessed. Maybe my friend was right. They are kind of giants on the football field.
Anyway, that’s my little adventure in data analysis. It wasn’t exactly groundbreaking research, but it was fun to dig into the numbers and learn something new. Plus, I got to one-up my friend, which is always a bonus. He still doesn’t believe that I did all this myself, but whatever. I know the truth. Ha!
