Alright, let’s talk about Cordelius. When I first got my hands on him, I was pretty stoked about that shadow realm super. Looked fun, you know? But getting him to work reliably, actually winning games, that took a bit of messing around. I spent a good chunk of time just playing him, trying different stuff out.

Gadgets First
So, the gadgets. I started with Replanting. The idea seemed solid – jump away, get out of sticky situations. And yeah, sometimes it saved my skin. But honestly? More often than not, I’d panic-jump right into another bad spot, or just waste it completely. It felt kinda unreliable, you know? Didn’t give me much control.
Then I switched over to Poison Mushroom. At first, I was like, “Huh? Just a quick silence?” Didn’t seem like much. But then I started actually using it tactically. Dropping it right before I pulled someone into the shadow realm with my super? Huge. Stops them from using their own gadgets or supers to escape right away. Or just tossing it onto an enemy trying to push forward, shutting down their attack for a second. Way more versatile than I first thought. Felt like I had more impact on the fight with this one.
Star Power Trials
Okay, Star Powers. Comboshrooms was the first one I tried. More mushrooms, more damage, right? Makes sense. But in practice… hitting both mushrooms consistently was tricky unless the enemy was practically hugging me. The extra damage felt kinda inconsistent. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t feel like a game-changer most of the time.
Then I gave Mushroom Kingdom a go. And man, this one clicked for me. That speed boost when you’re in the shadow realm? That’s the stuff. Suddenly, chasing down those squishy brawlers became way easier. Dodging their shots while I closed the distance felt much smoother. It just made the whole point of his super – isolating and taking someone out – way more effective. This felt like the winner for me, made the shadow realm feel properly threatening.
Sorting Out The Gears
Gears are always a bit of a headache, figuring out what really helps. For Cordelius, since he’s gotta get close, I immediately thought about survivability and damage.

- I slapped on the Damage gear pretty early. Seemed like a no-brainer. Need to finish people off quickly, especially in the shadow realm.
- Then I debated between Health and Speed. Cordelius feels a bit fragile, so Health helps him survive getting close. But Speed also helps him get close in the first place, and dodge. I kinda flip-flop depending on the map. Grassy maps, maybe Speed. More open maps, sometimes Health feels safer.
- I did try the Gadget Charge gear for a while, thinking more Poison Mushrooms would be awesome. But honestly, three charges felt like enough most of the time if I wasn’t just spamming it. Didn’t feel as crucial as Damage or Health/Speed.
My Go-To Build (What I Settled On)
So after all that playing around, here’s what I usually run on Cordelius now:
- Gadget: Poison Mushroom
- Star Power: Mushroom Kingdom
- Gears: Damage and Speed (or sometimes Health instead of Speed)
Why this works for me: The Poison Mushroom gives me control right before or during crucial moments. Mushroom Kingdom makes the super way more deadly by letting me close the gap or dodge effectively in the shadow realm. Damage gear helps secure those kills faster, and Speed helps me get into position or chase people down on the main map too. It just feels like a solid, aggressive setup that plays to his strengths.
Of course, maybe you’ll find something different works better for your style, especially on certain maps or against specific team comps. Sometimes I might swap Speed for Health if I feel like I’m getting blown up too fast. But yeah, this is the build I’ve had the most success with after just grinding out games with him. Give it a shot, see how it feels!
