So, I got this idea stuck in my head about an All-Star game ring. Saw some pictures online, you know, the big, flashy ones they give out. Thought to myself, hey, I wonder if I could make something like that? Not a real one, obviously, but just messing around, a little project for myself.

First thing, I just browsed around looking at different designs. Lots of stars, lots of bling. I wasn’t trying to copy any specific one, just wanted to capture that over-the-top feeling. Fired up my computer and opened up some simple 3D design software I use sometimes. Nothing fancy, just basic stuff.
Getting Hands Dirty with the Design
I started with the basic band shape. Made it thick, because these rings are always chunky. Then, I started adding bits on top. Tried to make a star shape, played around with some raised sections on the sides. It’s harder than it looks to get it right, especially making it look like, you know, a proper ring and not just a lump.
The software was a bit fiddly, trying to get the curves smooth and stick little details on. Spent a good while just pushing and pulling shapes around on the screen. Didn’t go too crazy with tiny details, figured my 3D printer would struggle anyway. Kept it bold and simple-ish.
From Digital to Physical
Once I had something that looked okay-ish on the screen, I saved the file. Had to export it in the right format for the printer, an STL file I think it’s called. Did a quick check to make sure there weren’t any obvious holes or weird bits in the model that would mess up the print.
Then, time for the printer. I had some filament that looked kinda silvery, thought that would be good enough. Loaded it up, sliced the file – that’s the step that tells the printer how to build it layer by layer – and sent the job over. The printer started doing its thing, buzzing away.

It took a few hours, actually. Went and did other stuff, came back to check on it now and then. Just watching it build up slowly is kinda cool sometimes.
The Final Result
Finally, it was done. Popped it off the build plate. It needed a bit of cleanup, there were some stringy bits of plastic and some support material I had to break off carefully. Maybe could have sanded it down a bit more, but I was impatient.
So, here it is. My own, homemade “all star game ring”. It’s definitely not professional, it’s rough around the edges, made of plastic. But, you know what? I made this thing. From an idea, to a digital file, to something I can actually hold. It was a fun little experiment, figuring out the process. Pretty satisfying, really.
