Alright, let me walk you through what I did today regarding these home run prop bets. I kept seeing stuff about it, you know, people picking players to hit one out today. Seemed like a bit of fun, different from just picking a team to win.

So, I figured, why not? I had some time on my hands this morning, wasn’t too busy. Decided I’d dip my toes in, see what it was all about. Didn’t plan on going crazy, just wanted to try it out with a tiny bit of cash I wouldn’t mind losing. Like, coffee money level.
Figuring Out Who to Pick
First thing I did was just pull up the schedule for today’s baseball games. Okay, who’s playing who? Got the list in front of me.
Then I started thinking about the players. My process wasn’t super scientific, let me tell you. It was more like this:
- Who’s Hot?: I tried to remember who’s been hitting well lately. You see the highlights, hear the names. If a guy seemed like he was seeing the ball well, I put him on my maybe list.
- Pitcher Matchup: This seemed important. Is the guy facing some ace pitcher who barely gives up hits? Probably not a good bet. Or is he facing someone who tends to give up the long ball? That seemed like a better opportunity. I just glanced at some basic pitching stats, nothing too deep.
- Ballpark: Where are they playing? Some parks are just launching pads, others are pitcher-friendly. So, if a power hitter was playing in a place known for home runs, that got my attention.
- Gut Feeling: Honestly? Some of it was just a hunch. A name pops out, you think, “Yeah, maybe today’s his day.”
I jotted down maybe three or four names that ticked a couple of those boxes. Didn’t want to spread myself too thin.
Putting Down the Bets and Watching
Okay, so I had my names. I went ahead and placed a very small bet on each guy to hit a home run today. Like I said, just experimenting. Felt like buying a lottery ticket, almost.

Then the waiting game started. Games kicked off this afternoon and evening. I found myself keeping closer track of those specific players when they came up to bat. It definitely changes how you watch the game. Normally I’m just rooting for the team, but now I was zoning in on specific at-bats.
There were a few moments, you know? One of the guys I picked hit a deep fly ball, caught right at the warning track. Heart skipped a beat there! Another guy struck out looking, which was frustrating. It really makes you appreciate how hard hitting a home run actually is.
So, How Did It Go?
End of the day, none of my picks hit one out. Zip. Nada. So, the few bucks I put down? Gone. Which, frankly, I kind of expected. These bets have high odds for a reason; they don’t happen easily.
Was it worth it? Well, I didn’t make any money, obviously. But it added a different layer to watching the games today. Made it a bit more engaging in a specific way. Kinda fun to have that little extra rooting interest.
Think I’ll be doing this every day? Nah, probably not. It feels very hit-or-miss, mostly miss. Seems like a quick way to lose small amounts of money if you’re not careful or lucky. For me, it was just a little experiment for the day, seeing what the fuss was about. Back to just watching the games normally tomorrow, I think.
