So, I decided to really go for it in Shin Megami Tensei V. You know, get that one achievement everyone kinda dreads but also wants? Yeah, filling up the entire Demon Compendium. Seemed like a mountain to climb at first, honestly.

Played through the main story, just kinda casually fusing whatever looked cool or strong. Picked up demons here and there. Didn’t think much about the compendium, just enjoyed the ride. Then, maybe halfway through, I looked at the list. Saw how many gaps there were. Okay, I thought, maybe I should start paying a bit more attention.
Started going back to earlier areas, trying to find those little guys I’d missed. Fusing got a bit more deliberate. Still, mostly just messing around, trying combos. Some worked, some gave me stuff I already had. Typical.
Hitting the Wall
Then came the endgame. And the post-game cleanup. This is where it got real. Suddenly, I needed specific demons for those high-level fusions. And some of ’em? Only available through special fusions, or tucked away behind some tough side quests. The kind you put off ’cause you know they’re gonna be a pain.
- Had to grind for Macca like crazy. Summoning high-level dudes from the compendium just to fuse ’em costs a fortune.
- Needed specific items sometimes, which meant fighting the same enemies over and over. Got real boring, fast.
- Tracking down those Mitama for essences, that was another whole thing.
Spent hours just running around, fighting, fusing, checking the list, fusing again. Sometimes I’d fuse something, realize I needed it for another fusion later, and have to spend a ton of Macca to summon it back. Dumb mistakes like that.
Getting some of those unique demons, like the ones tied to specific tough bosses or questlines, was rough. Had to really buckle down and beat those challenges. Shiva was a big one, took a few tries and some specific team building. Felt good getting him registered though.

Towards the end, it was just a handful left. Maybe five or six demons. Staring at those empty slots was maddening. Checked my fusion lists, trying to figure out the exact combinations I needed. It felt like detective work almost.
Finally Done
The last one… I think it was some obscure fusion I just couldn’t figure out for ages. Finally got the right combination. Fused it. Watched the little animation. And then… bam. Achievement popped. Felt like a huge weight lifted. Took way longer than I thought it would, lot of late nights. But seeing that compendium at 100%? Yeah, pretty satisfying. Wouldn’t rush to do it again soon, though. Need a break after that grind.
