Okay, so I finally dove into the whole “Guild Distinction” thing in Sea of Thieves. I’d seen people talking about it, but honestly, I was too busy just, you know, sailing and stealing treasure to pay much attention.

First, I had to figure out what it even was. Turns out, it’s like a leveling system for your guild. The more you and your guildmates do stuff – sell treasure, fight skeletons, complete voyages, whatever – the more your guild’s reputation goes up. And as your reputation climbs, you earn these Distinction levels.
My initial plan was simple, join a guild with my friend and try to grind out a good distiction.
Getting Started
- Joined the Guild:I had to find it at the main menu.
- Start Pledging: Once in the guild, I picked a ship, pledged it to the guild.
We choose a Galleon because, why not?
- Set Sail: Head out and started, well, pirating!
My friend and I started to get to work.
Doing Pirate Stuff for the Guild
This is where the fun began, but it was also kind of a grind, not gonna lie. We did a little bit of everything:

- Treasure Hunting: We dug up chests, sold skulls, the usual. Every piece of loot we turned in helped boost the guild’s rep.
- Skeleton Bashing: We fought waves of skeletons on islands and at forts. More rep!
- Voyages: We tackled some of those longer, multi-part voyages. These seemed to give a bigger chunk of reputation.
- World Events:When the skelly fleets would pop up, we’d try to win them.
We were getting some where and we kept grinding away at our reputation.
Reaping the (Slow) Rewards
It took a while, a good few play sessions. I’m not hardcore, so we were chipping away at it bit by bit. Finally, we hit Distinction 1! It wasn’t super flashy, just a little notification, but it felt good. It’s like a little badge of honor for the guild, proof that we’re actually doing stuff together.
My overall thoughts? It’s a neat little system to give you another layer of progression, especially if you play with the same crew regularly. It’s not going to change the game drastically, but it’s a fun side-goal to chase.
