Alright, so I tackled this “great heights crossword” thing today. Sounded kinda fun, right? Here’s how it went down.

First off, I googled “great heights crossword clue” to see what I was even dealing with. I needed to understand the theme. Figured it had something to do with mountains or really tall buildings, but ya never know!
Then, I downloaded a crossword puzzle app on my phone. I usually do them in the newspaper, but for this, I wanted something I could easily save and mess with. Plus, some apps have hints if you get totally stuck.
Next, I just started filling in the easy ones. You know, the ones where you’re like, “Oh yeah, that’s totally ‘ERA’.” Gets the ball rolling, makes you feel smart, haha!
I noticed a couple of clues that had numbers next to them, like “1 Across” or “5 Down.” Those are the ones that intersect, so I paid extra attention to those. If I got one of those letters, it would help with the other clue.
Then I spent a good chunk of time staring blankly at the harder clues. Some of them were total brain-busters. I tried different things, like guessing synonyms or thinking about common phrases. Sometimes I even used a crossword solver website, but only as a last resort! It feels like cheating otherwise.

I ran into a few clues that were about super specific trivia. I swear, some of those crossword writers are history professors or something! I had to look up a few things online, like obscure mountain ranges or old-timey words.
I really struggled with one particular section. It was like three clues were all connected, and I couldn’t get any of them. I almost gave up, but then I remembered a word I learned in geography class. Bingo! It fit, and that unlocked the whole section.
Finally, after a couple of hours, I finished the whole darn thing! It was so satisfying to see all the little squares filled in correctly. I even checked it with an answer key online just to be sure. No mistakes!
Here are a few tips I picked up along the way:
- Start with the easy clues first.
- Pay attention to intersecting clues.
- Use a pencil (if you’re doing it on paper!).
- Don’t be afraid to look up stuff.
- Take breaks if you get frustrated.
Overall, it was a fun challenge. I might try another crossword tomorrow!
