Okay, let’s talk about tackling “What Was Left”. This one felt like a bit of a milk run at first, but you know how things go in Gray Zone.

Getting Started and Gearing Up
First things first, I grabbed the task from Handshake. Seemed simple enough on paper: head over to that little cluster of buildings near the sawmill, poke around, and find some specific intel someone left behind. Classic scavenger hunt stuff.
Gear-wise, I didn’t go too heavy. Figured it might be quiet. Took my trusty M4, slapped a simple red dot on it, nothing fancy. Packed a few extra mags, basic meds – bandages, tourniquet, the usual. Threw on some decent armor, not the top-tier stuff, didn’t want to risk losing it if things went sideways over something potentially easy. Packed some water and a snack bar, ’cause you never know how long these things actually take.
Moving In
I chose an LZ a bit north of the target area, hoping to come in quiet. The chopper ride was smooth, thankfully. Setting down, the area seemed pretty dead. Good start, right? Started my trek south, sticking to the treeline mostly. Moving slow, listening. You learn pretty quick that rushing gets you killed.
Got closer to the sawmill buildings. Still quiet. Almost too quiet. Made me a bit jumpy. You start imagining enemies behind every bush. I skirted around the main sawmill structure first, doing a quick visual sweep. Nothing moving.
The Search
Alright, the task pointed towards a specific small office building on the edge of the compound. Crouched low, moved up to the door. Peaked inside. Clear. Started the search inside. Place was a mess, papers everywhere, overturned furniture. Looked like someone left in a real hurry, or maybe someone else already tossed the place.

This part got tedious. I was checking desks, file cabinets, even looking under tables. Nothing. Just junk. Started thinking maybe the intel wasn’t even here, or someone else nabbed it. Frustrating. Spent maybe a solid 10 minutes just meticulously looking through this one small building.
- Checked the main desk drawers – empty except for old pens.
- Flipped through loose papers on the floor – nothing useful.
- Looked inside a rusty locker – just some old rags.
Then I spotted it. Tucked away on a high shelf, almost hidden behind some broken junk, was a small, beat-up looking tablet device. Didn’t stand out at all. Almost missed it. Picked it up, and the task objective updated. Bingo. That was “What Was Left”.
Getting Out
Okay, got the goods. Now just had to get back out. Didn’t want to linger. Retraced my steps carefully back towards my chosen extraction point. Still no sign of AI or other players, which honestly felt weird. Maybe I just got lucky today?
Called in the chopper. The wait always sucks. You feel exposed just sitting there. Kept scanning the trees. Finally heard the blades chopping air. Ran for it, hopped in, and lifted off. Task complete. Dropped the item off back at base with Handshake. Another job done.
It wasn’t exactly thrilling, more methodical. But hey, a clean run with no shots fired is always a good run in my book. Just glad I found that tablet, nearly gave up on searching that dusty shelf.
