Okay, so I wanted to talk about something I did a while back, related to golf major winners. It wasn’t anything groundbreaking, just something I got stuck into for a bit.

Had some time on my hands, you know how it is sometimes. Found myself watching a lot more golf than usual. The majors especially. Masters, PGA, the Opens. Got me thinking about all the past winners. Who won what, when. You can look it up easy, sure, but I got this idea in my head: I should make my own list. Like, a definitive record just for myself.
Getting Started
Seemed simple enough. Fire up the computer, open a spreadsheet. Start searching. Year, tournament, winner. Easy peasy, right? Well, yeah, for the recent ones. But these things go way back. Like, way back.
So I started digging. Copying, pasting. Checking different sources. Trying to be thorough. Put in a few hours the first day. Then a few more the next. It kinda snowballed.
Hitting a Snag
Turns out, history can be messy. Some old records were a bit fuzzy. Found myself going down rabbit holes, checking details that probably didn’t matter much. The spreadsheet started getting big. And honestly? It got tedious. Really tedious.
Spent maybe a week on this thing, off and on. And there were moments I just thought, what am I even doing? This list isn’t paying bills. It felt a bit like busywork, filling time I didn’t really want filled, if you know what I mean. Felt a bit stuck, honestly, both with the list and other stuff.

What Came Out Of It
I did eventually get a decent list together. Nothing fancy. Just names, years, tournaments. All the big ones covered.
But the real thing was…
- It kept my brain occupied when I needed it.
- It was a small thing I could actually finish, start to end.
- Made me appreciate how much work goes into organizing information, even for something like sports history.
Didn’t magically learn spreadsheet wizardry or anything. Didn’t turn me into a golf historian. But finishing that list felt… good. Like I’d actually done something, even if it was small. It was just a little project, born out of boredom I guess, but it helped me sort through some things in my head at the time.
So yeah, that was my little adventure with golf major winners. Just plugging away at something simple, really. Sometimes that’s all you need.
