Okay, so today I’m gonna spill the tea on my “makeup potion” project inspired by Genshin Impact. It was a wild ride, lemme tell ya!

It all started with me binge-watching Genshin streams, as you do, and I was just mesmerized by the elemental effects and the whole aesthetic. I thought, “Hey, how cool would it be to translate that into makeup?” So, the idea of a “makeup potion” was born.
First, I started brainstorming what kind of potion I wanted to create. I settled on a Hydro (water) themed one because, well, blue is my favorite color, and it felt the most achievable. I envisioned something shimmery, hydrating, and with a cool, refreshing vibe.
Then came the fun part: research! I hit up YouTube, watched a bunch of DIY makeup tutorials, and scrolled through countless Pinterest boards. I needed to figure out what ingredients were safe to use on my face and where to source them.
Okay, ingredients time. I decided to keep it pretty simple. I grabbed some:
- Distilled water ( gotta be clean!)
- Glycerin (for hydration, duh)
- Blue mica powder (for that shimmer!)
- A little bit of aloe vera gel (soothing!)
- And a tiny bit of preservative (I used Optiphen Plus, gotta keep it from going bad)
Finding the right blue mica powder was a struggle. I wanted that perfect Genshin-y blue, not too dark, not too light. I ended up ordering a few different shades and mixing them until I got the color I wanted. It was like being a mad scientist in my kitchen!

Okay, mixing time! I started by sterilizing all my tools and containers. Hygiene is key, people! Then, I carefully measured out the distilled water and glycerin in a beaker. I slowly added the mica powder, stirring constantly. It took a while to get it fully dissolved and avoid clumps.
Next, I mixed in the aloe vera gel. This part was a little tricky because the aloe vera made the mixture a bit thicker. I had to really work it to get everything to blend smoothly.
Finally, I added the preservative. This is super important to prevent bacteria growth and keep the potion safe to use. I followed the manufacturer’s instructions carefully to make sure I added the right amount.
After everything was mixed, I poured the potion into a small spray bottle. I wanted it to be easy to apply and give a nice, even mist.
Now, for the moment of truth: testing! I sprayed a little bit of the potion on my arm first to make sure I didn’t have any allergic reactions. Thankfully, everything was fine!

Then, I tried it on my face. The potion felt cool and refreshing, and the shimmer was gorgeous! It gave my skin a subtle, dewy glow. I even used it as a setting spray after applying my makeup, and it worked like a charm!
Of course, there were some hiccups along the way. The first batch I made was way too watery. I had to add more glycerin to get the right consistency. Also, I initially used too much mica powder, and it made my face look like a disco ball. I had to dilute the mixture to tone it down.
But overall, I’m super happy with how my “makeup potion” turned out. It’s a fun, unique way to add a touch of Genshin magic to my everyday look. And it was a blast to create!
Lessons learned: Measure carefully, don’t be afraid to experiment, and always, always sterilize your tools!
Would I do it again? Definitely! Next time, I might try a Pyro (fire) themed potion. Wish me luck!
