Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this new Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond S driver, and let me tell you, it’s been quite a ride. I ordered the package and waited for a few days, finally I got it.
First off, I went with the 450cc head. It’s a bit smaller than some of the other drivers out there. I wanted to try something that I could really control and work the ball with. This smaller head just felt right in my hands when I was setting up my first shot.
Now, when it comes to the shaft, I got a bit more specific. I picked the Project X HZRDUS Gen4 Black Shaft 6.0. I know some folks might go for other options, but this one just matches my swing. It has a low launch which isn’t for everyone, but I find that it helps me get that penetrating ball flight that I’m always chasing.
- Unboxing this thing was pretty exciting.
- The headcover looks sleek, and slipping it off to see the driver for the first time was great.
- The head is compact, and it just looks mean.
Practice Makes Perfect
I took it straight to the range, obviously. The first few swings, I could feel the difference right away. It’s definitely not as forgiving if you miss the sweet spot, but that’s what I expected. When I did catch it flush, though, oh boy. The ball just took off like a rocket. It gave me a ton of feedback, which I appreciate. It made me really focus on my swing and where I was making contact.
Over the next few weeks, I kept at it, getting more and more comfortable with the Triple Diamond S. I started playing around with shot shapes, hitting fades and draws, and this driver responded beautifully. It’s not magic or anything, but it does exactly what I tell it to do, for better or worse.
Then, I took it out on the course for a real test. Playing 18 holes with it was where things got interesting. On holes where I needed to keep it low and running, it performed like a champ. But on those holes where I tried to get a bit more air under it, well, it was a bit of a struggle at first. It took some adjusting, but by the back nine, I was starting to dial it in.
Here’s the thing, this driver isn’t for everyone. If you’re someone who needs a lot of help keeping the ball in play, this might not be your best bet. But if you’re like me, someone who likes to work the ball and really fine-tune their shots, then you might just love the Triple Diamond S. It’s all about finding the right tool for your game, and for me, this driver is fitting in pretty darn well. And I will keep practicing and testing to get better performance.
