So today, I wanted to catch a baseball game and saw that Georgia was playing against Vanderbilt. I’m not a huge baseball fanatic, but hey, a game’s a game, right? I decided to see what this whole thing was about.
First off, I tried to figure out when the game was even happening. It turns out it was on May 5th, 2024, at 5:00 PM UTC. I had to do a quick search to convert that to my local time. NCAA, that’s the league, I think.
Then I looked up who was likely to win. Everyone’s saying Georgia Tech has a good chance against Vanderbilt. Some site even mentioned the Yellow Jackets being favored by 3 points. I guess that means they’re expected to be the better team? I saw something about an over/under of 49.5, whatever that means.
I also found out that the game was at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala. I’ve never been there, but it sounds like a big place for a game like this. It mentioned a kickoff time of 3:30 p.m. ET on Friday. Wait, kickoff? Isn’t that a football term? Maybe they use it for baseball too, I don’t know.
I dug a bit deeper and saw that Georgia’s pitcher, some guy named Leighton Finley, has a 3-1 record. Sounds decent, I guess. I’m not sure how good that is in baseball terms, but it’s probably better than having more losses than wins.
- Checked the game time and date: May 5, 2024, 5:00 PM UTC.
- Looked up the location: Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala.
- Found out Georgia Tech was favored to win.
- Saw that Georgia’s pitcher, Leighton Finley, had a 3-1 record.
Anyway, I watched the game, or at least parts of it. I tried to follow the play-by-play action online. It was a bit confusing with all the baseball jargon, but I got the gist of it. They kept mentioning box scores and stuff, which I assume are the stats for each player. In the end, the final score was 10-0 for one of the games I saw. One team completely shut out the other. That’s pretty wild.
So, yeah, that was my experience diving into the Georgia vs. Vanderbilt baseball game. I still don’t know much about baseball, but it was interesting to check out. Maybe I’ll watch another game sometime and learn a bit more. Who knows, I might even become a fan one day!
