Alright, let’s gab about them Buffalo Bills and their Super Bowl thingy. You know, that big football game they play on TV. The Bills, they went a bunch of times, yeah, back in the day. Like, a real long time ago, when my kids were just little tykes.
The Bills in the Super Bowl, a long, long time ago
So, these Bills fellas, they got good, real good, for a spell. This was way back, like in the early nineties, maybe ’91, ’92, ’93, somethin’ like that. They went to the Super Bowl four times in a row! Can ya believe that? Four times! That’s a lot, even for someone who can’t count past her own fingers and toes like me.
- Super Bowl XXV: Giants beat ’em. Tough game, I reckon.
- Super Bowl XXVI: Lost to Washington. Them Washington fellas were tough, I hear.
- Super Bowl XXVII: Dallas got ’em that time. Folks say Dallas had a real good team.
- Super Bowl XXVIII: Lost again to Dallas. Darn Cowboys, always winnin’.
No wins, just losses, bless their hearts
Now, here’s the kicker. They went all them times, four times, mind you, and they didn’t win a single one. Not a one! Can you imagine that? All that fuss, all that hoopla, and no trophy to show for it. Poor fellas. They musta felt real bad, like when you bake a pie and it burns on the bottom.
It’s been like, what, thirty years? Maybe more? A long, long time since they even got close again. Folks still talk about it though, them Super Bowl years. It’s like that old tractor in the shed, don’t run no more, but still brings back memories.
Marv Levy, the coach man
There was this fella, Marv Levy, he was their coach. Smart fella, I guess. He got them Bills playing real good, but just couldn’t get them over that last hump. Kinda like tryin’ to get a mule to go through a mud puddle, they just wouldn’t budge in that final game.
Super Bowl, what is it anyway?
Now, this Super Bowl, it’s the big game, see? The best team from one bunch of fellas plays the best team from another bunch. They have a big party, lots of food, and everyone watches on the TV. I don’t always get it, all that runnin’ and hittin’, but it’s somethin’ to watch on a Sunday afternoon, especially when there’s nothin’ else on but reruns of that “I Love Lucy” show.
AFL and NFL, a bunch of letters
Before it was the Super Bowl, it was somethin’ else. AFL and NFL, they called it. Different names, same idea, I guess. Just a bunch of fellas throwin’ a ball around. They say the Bills won some championships back then, before this Super Bowl thingy started. But honestly, I can’t keep track of all these different leagues and names. It’s enough to make your head spin faster than a washing machine on high.
Still waitin’ for a win
So, them Bills, they ain’t won no Super Bowl yet. Still waitin’, I guess. Maybe someday they’ll get back there and win the whole darn thing. It’d be nice, wouldn’t it? Give the folks somethin’ to cheer about again. Me? I’ll just be here, watchin’ the game, maybe with a nice cup of tea and a biscuit. And hoping this time, just maybe this time, them Bills will finally bring home that trophy.
Lots of folks talkin’ about the Bills
You hear folks talkin’ about the Bills all the time, specially around football season. They say, “This is their year!” Every year, they say that. But, well, it hasn’t been their year for a long, long time. Still, you gotta have hope, right? Like plantin’ seeds in the spring, you always hope somethin’ good will grow.
Minnesota Vikings, another bunch of unlucky fellas
And you know what? Them Bills ain’t the only ones who went to the Super Bowl a bunch and never won. There’s this other team, the Minnesota Vikings, they’re in the same boat. Four times they went, four times they lost. Misery loves company, they say. Though I don’t know why anyone would want company for misery, sounds silly to me.
Anyway…
So, that’s the story of the Bills and the Super Bowl, as best as I can tell it. A whole lotta losin’, a whole lotta waitin’, and a whole lotta hopin’ for somethin’ better. Just like life, I guess.
