Well, lemme tell you about these Freddie Freeman cards. My grandson, he’s crazy about baseball. He kept talkin’ about this Freddie Freeman fella, so I had to figure out what the fuss was all about. Seems like this Freddie, he’s a big shot baseball player. Played for the Braves, now he’s with the Dodgers. Big deal, I guess.
These cards, they got pictures of him on ’em. Some got him swingin’ the bat, some got him catchin’ the ball. My grandson, he’s got a whole stack of ’em. Says they’re Freddie Freeman baseball cards. Says they are valuable. Says one day they’ll be worth a lot of money. I don’t know about that. Seems like a waste of money to me.
But he loves ’em. He trades ’em with his friends. He’s got this one card, he calls it a “rookie” card. Says it’s special. It’s just a picture of Freddie Freeman when he was younger, I reckon. He keeps that one in a special plastic thingy. He won’t let anyone touch that one. It is a Freddie Freeman rookie card. He says it’s important. Kids these days, I swear.
He showed me this other one, says it’s a Freddie Freeman MVP card. Says Freddie won some big award or somethin’. He was all excited, pointin’ at the card and tellin’ me how good Freddie is at baseball. I just nodded along. Don’t really understand it, but he was happy.
He says he gets these cards from the internet. Some place called eBay. You can buy anything on there, apparently. It’s a good place to buy Freddie Freeman cards. You can get a whole lot of them for some money. He showed me, there’s all sorts of ’em. Some are cheap, some are expensive. Depends on how “rare” they are, he says. He showed me a Freddie Freeman Topps Now card. I don’t know what Topps is. A company, maybe?

- He says they’re worth somethin’.
- He’s got a whole bunch of ’em.

- There are different kinds.
- Some of them are Topps cards.
- And there are some 2022 Topps cards.
- He keeps some in a special plastic thing.
- I don’t know why.
Now, he says some of these cards are called trading cards. He takes ’em to school, trades ’em with his buddies. They swap ’em back and forth. He came home one day all excited, said he traded some other card for another Freddie Freeman card. He said it was a good trade. I don’t know, looks the same to me.
These baseball cards are like a trend or something. It is kind of like a trend in our young people. All the kids are doin’ it. They all got their favorite players. They all want the best cards. They are all collecting those Freddie Freeman baseball cards. I guess it keeps ’em out of trouble. Better than runnin’ around causin’ a ruckus, I suppose.
He keeps all these cards in a big box. He’s got hundreds of ’em, I reckon. Not just Freddie Freeman, but other players too. But Freddie, he’s his favorite. He even got one with Freddie’s signature on it. Says it’s an “autograph” card, a Freddie Freeman autograph card. Says that one’s really special. I guess Freddie just scribbled on it with a pen. But my grandson, he treasures it.
I don’t really understand the whole thing, but if it makes him happy, that’s all that matters. He spends hours lookin’ at those cards, sortin’ ’em, tradin’ ’em. It’s his hobby, I guess. Everybody needs a hobby. Mine is quiltin’. His is collectin’ those Freddie Freeman cards. These cards are like his treasure.
He says there are some Freddie Freeman Chrome cards, too. They’re shiny, I guess. He likes those a lot. He says they are kind of new. And he showed me one, he called it a “Heart of the City” card. It’s got a picture of Freddie and some city in the background. I don’t know what city. He’s always showin’ me new ones. Keeps me on my toes, that boy.
The prices are different. It is all about whether the cards are popular or not, I think. He said some Freddie Freeman 2022 Topps card are popular, and some Freddie Freeman 2022 Topps Chrome cards are popular, too. That means their price will be higher. Oh, my poor purse.
Anyways, that’s all I know about these Freddie Freeman cards. It’s a whole world I never knew existed. But my grandson, he’s teachin’ me all about it. Maybe one day I’ll even understand what makes ’em so special. But for now, I’m just glad they make him happy. And keep him busy. And they do keep him out of trouble.
