Okay, so I ran into this “persistence transfer canceled” error in Apex Legends the other day, and let me tell you, it was a pain. I was trying to get my stuff from my old PlayStation account over to my new PC account, you know, all those skins and heirlooms I grinded for. Figured I’d share how I finally got it sorted, ’cause the info out there is kinda messy.

The Problem Started Simple Enough…
I followed the usual steps. Went to the website, linked my accounts – PlayStation and the new EA account for PC. Seemed easy enough, right? Clicked the button to start the transfer, and BAM! “Persistence transfer canceled.” No explanation, just that. Super frustrating.
Digging Around (and Failing)
First thing I did was the usual Google search. Found a bunch of forum posts and Reddit threads, but most of them were just people complaining. Some said it was a server issue, others said to wait a few hours, some even said to contact EA support (which, let’s be honest, is a nightmare).
I tried waiting. Like, a whole day. Still nothing. Tried restarting the game, my PC, even my router. Nope. Still that same annoying error message.
The “Fix” (That Worked for Me)
So, here’s what actually worked, and it’s kinda weird. I stumbled on this one tiny comment buried deep in a forum thread. The guy said to try this and that, and do some other things. These are what I’ve done in my case:
- Unlinked and Relinked EVERYTHING. I mean everything. Went back to the EA site, unlinked my PlayStation account, unlinked my Steam account (even though I wasn’t using it), unlinked everything connected to that EA account.
- Clear the browser cache and cookies You need to clear all the browser cache and cookies to avoid the website still loading any of old files.
- Used a Different Browser/Device. This might be overkill, but I switched from Chrome to Firefox. Just to be sure.
- Relinked ONLY the Essentials. This time, I ONLY linked my PlayStation account to the EA account. Didn’t touch Steam or anything else.
- Initiated the Transfer Again. Crossed my fingers, held my breath, and clicked that transfer button.
- Wait and PrayI’m not suggesting to do pray, but instead of panicking if the transfer takes too long, just leave it there and give it some time.
And… it worked! Seriously, it finally started the transfer. Took a while to complete, but all my stuff showed up on my PC account. I was so relieved I almost cried (almost).

My Best Guess Why It Worked
I’m not a tech expert, but my guess is there was some kind of conflict with the linked accounts, or maybe some old data stuck in the system. By completely unlinking everything and starting fresh, it probably cleared out whatever was causing the issue. The browser change might have helped too, just in case some cached data was messing things up.
Anyway, that’s my story. Hope this helps someone else out there struggling with this stupid “persistence transfer canceled” error. It’s a weird fix, but it worked for me. Good luck, and may the Apex gods be with you!
