Alright, so today I decided to work on my left-hand skills in basketball. I’m pretty dominant with my right hand, so it’s always been a challenge. Thought I’d share how it went, bumps and all.

Getting Started
First thing, I just grabbed my basketball and headed out to the court. No fancy drills, no coaches, just me and the hoop. I figured the best way to start was by, well, starting.
The Awkward Phase
- Dribbling: Man, it felt weird. Like my left hand was a foreign object. I kept losing the ball, dribbling it off my foot, the usual clumsy stuff. I just focused on keeping the ball low and trying to get a feel for it. I spent about 20 minutes just dribbling in place, then moving around a bit.
- Passing: Next, I tried some basic chest passes against the wall. Again, super awkward. My passes were weak and off-target. I really had to concentrate on pushing the ball with my left hand and following through. I did this for another 15-20 minutes, just trying to get some consistency.
Shooting Struggles
This was the toughest part. My left-handed shot is… well, it’s not pretty. I started with some layups, just trying to get the ball up on the backboard and in. Even those were a struggle. It felt like I had no coordination at all.
After a bunch of missed layups, I moved back for some short jump shots. Even worse! I airballed a few, bricked a bunch more. It was frustrating, but I kept reminding myself that it’s all about practice.
Making (Some) Progress
After about an hour of this, I started to feel… slightly less terrible. My dribbling was a little smoother, my passes had a bit more zip, and I even managed to make a few shots! It wasn’t anything to brag about, but it was progress.
Wrapping Up
I finished up by just shooting around for a while, mixing in some right-handed shots too. It’s definitely going to take a lot more work to get my left hand up to par, but hey, at least I started. It is the importmant part, right?

So that was my “famous lefthand basketball” practice for today. Not exactly glamorous, but real. If you’re trying to improve your weak hand, my advice is just keep at it. It’s going to be awkward and frustrating, but every little bit of practice helps.
