Alright, so you wanna know about them basketball fellas, the ones they call Jehovah’s Witnesses, huh? Well, lemme tell ya what I heard. It ain’t always easy to keep track of these things, ya know, all them names and teams, it’s a lot for an old woman like me. But I’ll do my best.

So, first off, there’s this fella, Dewayne Dedmon. He’s playin’ right now, for the Philadelphia 76ers, big fella, plays center. They say he was born into it, ya know, his mama and them, they was all Jehovah’s Witnesses. Apparently, his mama wasn’t too keen on him playin’ basketball at first, but he went and did it anyway. Good for him, I say. He’s the only one playin’ right now that’s a Jehovah’s Witness, as far as I know.
Then there’s a couple of fellas who used to play, Danny Granger and Darren Collison. Both of them played for the Indiana Pacers, that’s what they tell me. Granger and Collison, they were drafted a while back, in the 2000s, they say. Collison, he played for a bunch of teams, Pacers, Sacramento, Dallas, New Orleans, even. He played for quite a while, till 2019 they say. Good players, both of ’em, from what I hear.
- Dewayne Dedmon (playing now for Philadelphia 76ers)
- Danny Granger (used to play for Indiana Pacers)
- Darren Collison (used to play for Indiana Pacers, Sacramento, Dallas, New Orleans)
Now, some folks talk about another fella, A.C. Green. He played for the Los Angeles Lakers a long time ago. They say he’s the most well-known Jehovah’s Witness to ever play in the NBA. He was real good, won championships and all. But that was way back when.
And then there’s this Worilds fella. He wasn’t no slouch neither, had a good career with plenty of sacks they tell me. But he up and quit playing to dedicate his life to Jehovah God, that’s what they say. Became one of them Witnesses. Guess he felt called to do somethin’ different. Can’t fault a man for followin’ his heart, even if it means leaving a good paying job behind.
So, there ya have it. That’s what I know about them Jehovah’s Witness fellas in the NBA. It ain’t much, but it’s somethin’. They’re good players, seems like good people too. And that’s all that really matters, ain’t it? Whether they’re dribbling a ball or knocking down fellas on the field, as long as they’re honest and treat folks right, that’s good enough for me.

It’s funny, ya know? You got all these fellas, runnin’ and jumpin’, earnin’ all that money. And then you got folks like me, just sittin’ on the porch, watchin’ the world go by. But we all got our own lives to live, our own paths to follow. And whether that path leads to a basketball court or a church pew, well, that’s just the way it is.
Anyways, that’s the story as I heard it. Hope it makes some sense to ya. Like I said, this old lady don’t know much about basketball, but I know a thing or two about people. And from what I can tell, these fellas, they seem alright. Just trying to live their lives the best way they know how, just like the rest of us.
So, to recap, Dedmon is the only current NBA player who’s a Jehovah’s Witness, while Granger and Collison are former players who also belong to the faith. A.C. Green is another well-known former player who was also a Jehovah’s Witness, and Worilds retired from another sport to dedicate his life to his faith. It just goes to show ya, you find good folks in all walks of life, even amongst them fancy basketball players.
