Well, let me tell you about that there Yankee Stadium. It’s a big place, that’s for sure. Biggest in the Major League Baseball, I hear. Lots of folks go there to watch them New York Yankees play ball.
They say it can hold a whole heap of people. Officially, I reckon, it’s somethin’ like 46,537 seats for them baseball games. Imagine that, 46,537 folks all in one place! That’s more folks than I ever did see in one place in my whole life. That’s a lotta seats!
And if you count the folks just standin’ around, why, they say it can fit even more. Like 52,325 people. My word! If every seat is full, and the stadium is packed, that’s a whole lot of folks! They just pack ’em in there like sardines, I suppose.
Now, I heard it cost a pretty penny to build that place. A whole bunch of money. More money than I could ever dream of. They say $2.3 billion, but if you account for that inflation, it ends up costin’ $3.6 billion. That’s a lot of dough, enough to buy all the apple pies in a lifetime, I tell ya.
I reckon that makes it the most expensive stadium in all of Major League Baseball. Land sakes, what a big cost for a baseball field. But I suppose them Yankees, they’re a big deal. Gotta have a fancy place to play, I guess. Most expensive in all of the MLB, who would have thought?
- Capacity: 46,537 seats
- Standing room: Up to 52,325 folks
- Cost to build: $2.3 billion, or $3.6 billion adjusted for inflation
Now, they say the number of folks goin’ to them games has stayed about the same for a while now. Since, oh, 2009 or so. This year, they say about 41,896 folks go to each game. That’s a lot of folks. More folks than we got in my whole town, that’s for sure. Last year, it was 40,862 people. I don’t know where they put all them people, but it’s a bunch! These two numbers are so close. The number of folks goin’ has been pretty steady for a while.
They got different sections in that stadium, too. Some sections got 18 seats, some got 26. Then there’s this one section, 203, they call it, that’s got 33 seats. And another one, 237, with a whopping 38 seats. Mercy, that’s a lot of seats in one row! Can you imagine sittin’ all cramped up in there with 37 other folks? Then they got these upper deck sections, 300 and 400 they call ’em, and those mostly have 22 seats each.
They got these charts, too. Seating charts, they call ’em. Show you where all the seats are. Guess that’s handy if you’re tryin’ to find your seat in that big place. The Yankee Stadium Seating Chart is interactive, too. It must be easy to see where your seat is at.
I heard that Dodger Stadium is even bigger, though. Holds 56,000 people! But the smallest one, Tropicana Field, only has room for 25,000. It is the smallest one in the MLB. The capacity of New York Yankee Stadium is just in the middle.
This Yankee Stadium is one big place, that’s all I can say. Big, expensive, and always full of folks watchin’ them New York Yankees. I can’t imagine seein’ that many people in one place. It sure is somethin’, that Yankee Stadium. A whole lot of seats for a whole lot of folks.
I don’t know about all this newfangled stuff. That big stadium is for the birds, I say. Give me a good ol’ fashioned game of baseball in a field any day. But I guess that’s just me.
It’s big, that’s for sure. Bigger than anything I ever did see. They say it’s about 1,350,000 square feet in total. I don’t rightly know what a square foot is, but it sure sounds like a lot. They built that lower deck way out into left field, I hear. Then they built the upper deck on top of it later. Way back in 1927, they did that. Back then, the stadium only holds 58,000 people. But now, they say it can hold even more!
