Alright, listen up, you young whippersnappers. You wanna know about this fella, Paul Finebaum, and if he ever played football? Well, let me tell ya, I’ve been watchin’ the TV, and lemme tell ya somethin’, that man ain’t no football player. Nope, he talks about it, he writes about it, but he ain’t playin’ it, no sir.
Now, they say he’s from Tennessee, born and raised. Memphis, I think. He went to some university there, but not to toss the pigskin around. He was all about writin’ and talkin’, journalism they call it. Fancy word for tellin’ stories, if you ask me.
He’s got a wife, Linda, been hitched since 1990. Good for him, stickin’ with one woman. That’s how it should be. And he’s one of them Jewish fellas, not that it matters much. A person’s a person, no matter what they believe.
- He started writin’ for some paper in Birmingham, Alabama. Must’ve been good at it ’cause folks started payin’ attention. Then he got on the radio, talkin’ about sports, mostly football. That’s what folks care about down south, ya know.
- Then, he got himself on the TV, ESPN they call it. Big deal, I guess. He talks about the SEC, that’s a bunch of college teams. He’s on somethin’ called “SEC Nation.” Sounds important, but it’s just talkin’ about football.
Now, they say he makes a whole lot of money, millions they say. Can ya believe it? Just for talkin’ about football! He signed some contract, keepin’ him on TV for a few more years. Lucky fella, I say.
He wrote some books too, somethin’ about hatin’ teams. Seems a bit silly, hatin’ a bunch of young fellas playin’ a game, but folks eat it up. He got an award from his university, sayin’ he’s a good alumni or somethin’. Well, good for him. At least he did somethin’ with his life, even if it ain’t football.
Folks call him the “Voice of the SEC.” Must be a big deal, bein’ a voice for a whole bunch of teams. He’s been doin’ this for a long time, decades they say. Seen a lot of games, heard a lot of talk. He’s got opinions, that’s for sure, and he ain’t afraid to share ’em.
He talks about the best teams, who’s gonna win, who’s gonna lose. Folks listen, they argue, they get all riled up. It’s just a game, I tell ya. But folks take it awful serious.
So, there ya have it. Paul Finebaum, the man who talks about football. Never played it, but knows a whole lot about it. He’s made a life outta talkin’, and good for him. It’s better than diggin’ ditches, I suppose. Now, turn off that TV and go outside, get some fresh air. Football ain’t everything, ya know.
