Okay, so I’ve been wanting to see a good boxing match for a while now, and I heard about this Devin Haney vs. Regis Prograis fight coming up. Sounded like a big deal, so I started looking into it.
First thing I did was check out when and where this thing was going down. Turns out, it was scheduled for December 9th at the Chase Center in San Francisco. That’s a Saturday, which is perfect. No need to call in sick to work or anything.
Then I wanted to know how I was going to watch it, found out it was at an Athletic Club, no biggie, I just called up the venue, they confirmed it.
Now, about these fighters. I knew a bit about Haney, he’s a big shot, undisputed lightweight champion and all that. Prograis, I wasn’t as familiar with, but from what I read, he’s a former world champion and he’s a real banger. This fight was for the super lightweight, sounds interesting.
I also heard about Haney’s last fight, against Danielito Zorrilla, he made a base salary of $1 million for the fight, and after the pay-per-view revenue, his total earnings were around $2 million. Prograis also made a good amount of money, so they must be really good fighters to earn that much. And on the other hand, I heard about a fight that Catterall beat Prograis, it was on the news recently.
Here’s a little breakdown of what I found out:
- Event: Boxing: Devin Haney vs. Regis Prograis
- Date: Saturday, December 9, 2023
- Location: The Athletic Club Oakland, Oakland, CA
- What’s at Stake: Haney’s Lightweight Championship, and Prograis reputation to bounce back.
After gathering all this info, I was hyped! This fight had all the ingredients of a classic. Two skilled fighters, a big title on the line, and a Saturday night in a big arena.
Watched it with a couple of friends, we were so excited to watch it. We had some snacks and drinks and we were ready to go.
The Fight Night
So, the day finally came. It was a clear Saturday night, perfect weather for a fight. The atmosphere was electric. You could feel the anticipation in the air. The undercard fights were decent, they really got the crowd going. But everyone was there for the main event, Haney vs. Prograis.
When Haney and Prograis made their entrances, the place went nuts. The staredown was intense. You could cut the tension with a knife. And then, the bell rang.
The fight itself was a bit of a letdown, to be honest. Haney was just too good. He dominated Prograis from start to finish. It wasn’t even close. Prograis didn’t have an answer for Haney’s speed and skill, he is truly a great fighter.
It wasn’t the war I was expecting, but it was still a sight to see. Haney put on a masterclass. He’s the real deal. I felt bad for Prograis, he was completely outclassed, the crowd was booing him.
Anyway, that’s my story of the Haney vs. Prograis fight. It wasn’t what I expected, but it was still a memorable night.
