Okay, so I got really curious about this whole Derek Jeter baseball card thing. I mean, the guy’s a legend, right? So, naturally, I wondered if his baseball cards were worth anything. I started digging around to find out.

First, I hit up the internet, just browsing around to see what I could learn. Turns out, there are tons of these cards out there, and the prices are all over the place! Some are just a couple of bucks, while others are apparently worth hundreds of thousands! It’s wild.
I found out that one of the most famous ones is his 1993 Topps rookie card, #98. Apparently, It’s part of the distinct Draft Pick subset making it instantly recognizable. I guess that makes it pretty special, even for an early Jeter card. I saw a bunch of these for sale, and the prices weren’t too crazy. This made it easy for me to pick one up for myself.
Then there’s this other one, the 1993 SP Foil rookie card. This one’s a whole different story. It sounds like there are over 23,000 of these graded cards, but only 22 are considered “PSA 10,” which I guess means they’re in perfect condition. I read that this is not the rarest PSA 10 in sports cards, but the era and low gem rate have made this card worth as much as $600,000 at its peak. Those are some serious numbers! I couldn’t find any for sale right now, but I’m keeping my eye out.
While I was looking, I also found out that the current record price for an individual sports card is the US$12.6 million paid for a 1952 Mickey Mantle baseball card (Topps; #311) on August 28, 2022. I can’t imagine ever owning something that valuable, but it is really cool to know.
Anyway, after all this searching and reading, I actually bought a couple of Derek Jeter cards myself! One was the 1993 Topps, and I got a few others that seemed interesting. It was pretty easy to get the Topps card, and it didn’t cost a fortune.
