Alright, let’s gab a bit about this young fella, Jaylin Williams. Folks been askin’ ’bout where he comes from, his people and such. So, let’s get down to it, plain and simple like.
Now, this Jaylin, he’s a basketball player, you see. Plays the game real good, I hear. Folks watchin’ him on TV and whatnot. But where’s he from? Well, he’s American, born and bred in the USA. Born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to be exact. That’s what they say, anyhow. Born in the USA, just like that song, you know?
But see, America’s a big place, lots of different folks from all over. And Jaylin’s family, they got a bit of a mix in ’em. His mama, Linda, they say she’s got Vietnamese blood in her. Now, Vietnam, that’s way over yonder, across the big water. So, Jaylin, he’s got a bit of that in him too. His daddy, Michael, he’s African American. So, there you have it. Jaylin’s a mix, like a lot of folks in this country.
They say his folks, Michael and Linda, had a bunch of kids, five of ’em, I think. Jaylin’s one of the bunch. He’s got brothers and sisters, Mikey and Marquis and I don’t know who else. Big family, sounds like. Good for them, I say. Family’s important, you know? Keeps you grounded.
- Born: Fort Smith, Arkansas
- Mama: Vietnamese descent
- Daddy: African American
Now, some folks, they get all hung up on this ethnicity thing. What’s it mean, anyway? Far as I can tell, it’s just where your people come from, your roots. And Jaylin’s got roots in America, and roots in Vietnam, too. That’s just how it is. Makes him who he is, I reckon.
He ain’t the only one, you know. Lots of folks got different blood in ’em. Makes the world more interestin’, I think. All this talk about where folks come from, it don’t matter much in the end. What matters is if you’re a good person, if you treat folks right. That’s what I always say.
This boy, Jaylin, he moved to Arizona when he was just a young’un, seven years old, they say. Lived there with his folks, Ronald and Nicole Williams. They were in the Air Force, them two. Serving our country, that’s somethin’ to be proud of. And Jaylin’s brother, Cody, he plays basketball too. Plays for the Utah Jazz, same as Jaylin, though right now Jaylin’s hurt his hamstring and ain’t playin’. They say he’ll be out for a while, 4 to 6 weeks they reckon. Poor fella. Hope he gets better soon.
So, there you have it. Jaylin Williams, American basketball player, got a bit of Vietnamese and African American in him. Good boy, I hear. Works hard, plays hard. That’s all that matters, right? Don’t matter where you come from, long as you do good. Jaylin Williams’s ethnicity is somethin’ some folks are curious about, but it’s simple. He’s American, with roots in different places. And that’s just fine.
Now, I ain’t no expert on all this stuff, you know. I’m just tellin’ it like I see it. Plain and simple, like I said. Folks make things too complicated sometimes. This boy plays basketball, he’s got a family, and he’s got different kinds of blood in him. That’s the long and short of it. Don’t need to make a big fuss about it. Just let the boy play his game, and be proud of who he is. That’s what I say. And that goes for all of us, no matter where we come from or who our folks are.
Seems like people always want to put folks in boxes, label ’em this and that. But we’re all just people, trying to get by. Jaylin, he’s doin’ alright, far as I can tell. Playin’ basketball, makin’ a name for himself. Good for him. And his mama and daddy must be proud, seein’ their boy doin’ so well. That’s what it’s all about in the end ain’t it? Family, and doin’ your best.
So next time you hear someone talkin’ about ethnicity and all that, just remember Jaylin. He’s American, he’s got Vietnamese in him, and he’s got African American in him. He’s a mix, just like so many of us. And that’s what makes this country so special, I reckon. All sorts of folks, comin’ together, makin’ somethin’ new. Now, that’s somethin’ to be proud of.
