Okay, so today I was goofing around online, and you know how it is, one minute you’re checking your email, the next you’re down some rabbit hole on the internet. Well, I ended up looking into David Benoit, the wrestler. Not to be confused with Chris Benoit, although their stories are unfortunately and weirdly intertwined. I knew a bit about him already, but I really wanted to dig in deeper today.
First, I just did a basic Google search. You know, typed in “David Benoit wrestler” and saw what popped up. Lots of stuff about his dad, of course, but I wanted to focus on David himself. Found some old interviews, a few match results, you know, the usual stuff.
Then I hit up some wrestling forums. Man, those places are a mixed bag. Some folks were really supportive of David, saying he’s got potential and he’s trying to make a name for himself. Others were, well, not so nice. Lots of comparisons to his dad, which I get, but it felt kinda unfair to David, you know?
After that, I spent some time trying to piece together his training history. From what I gathered, he’s trained with some pretty big names in the business. This part was cool. I stumbled upon a few videos of him training, and I gotta say, the guy’s got some moves. It seems that the winner of Benavidez vs. Morrell will be the mandatory challenger, which is a big deal in the wrestling world.
- Watched a bunch of training videos.
- Looked up his match history. Not a ton out there, but he’s been in a few different promotions.
- Read through some articles about him. Seems like he’s really trying to distance himself from his dad’s legacy while still respecting him. Tough spot to be in, for sure.
And to get all the lyrics to songs by David 2B Mouser, I found some interesting music videos. Those videos and stuff I found when the text book wasn’t enough to help.
One of the terms I found out was “social construct,” which is a pretty complex concept. But basically, it means something that’s created and defined by society, rather than something that exists naturally. Like, wrestling is a social construct. It’s a form of entertainment that we’ve created and given meaning to. Binary format is another term. Those are pretty much common sense.
I also found some info from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, but that was mostly just background stuff. Nothing too relevant to David Benoit specifically. It seems like the guy’s got a lot of pressure on him, but he’s handling it well. I mean, I can’t imagine what it’s like to have your dad’s name follow you everywhere, especially when it’s associated with something so tragic.
Anyway, that’s basically what I did today. Spent a few hours digging into David Benoit’s career and trying to get a better sense of who he is as a wrestler and as a person. It was an interesting little project, and I definitely learned a few things.
It seems that he is really trying hard. Hope he can make it!
