Okay, so I’ve been wanting to really dig into some NFL stats, you know, get beyond the usual scores and actually see how individual players are performing. Today, I decided to focus on the Detroit Lions vs. Dallas Cowboys game. It was a pretty intense matchup, and I was curious to see the numbers behind the action.

Getting Started
First things first, I needed to find a reliable source for the stats. You can’t just trust any website, lots of places might have approximate numbers, but I want precise information.
Finding the Data
I started with searching, and it took a few tries to find exactly what I was looking for. There are all sorts of sites with game summaries, but I wanted the detailed breakdown. After a couple of searches and scrolling through the results, I finally got the complete official game statistics. It was a really nice find!
Diving into the Numbers
Once I had the data, the fun began. I started looking at passing yards. You know, who threw the furthest, who had the most completions. For example:
- Jared Goff: how many yards he threw? What percentage he completed?
- Dak Prescott: What about his numbers? Compare them to Goff?
I did the same for rushing. How many carries did each player have? Who gained the most yards? Were there any standout runs?
- David Montgomery: yards, attempts.
- Tony Pollard: Did he outrush? Did he have any big runs?
Receiving was next. I wanted to see who the main targets were, how many catches they made, and of course, who racked up the most receiving yards.

- CeeDee Lamb: He’s a star, so I wanted to check his stats.
- Amon-Ra St. Brown: How he performed and compared them to Lamb?
Defense and Special Teams
It’s not all about the offense, of course. I also checked out defensive stats like tackles, sacks, and interceptions. Who were the key players making big stops? Were there any turnovers?
- Micah Parsons: I looked at his tackles and if he got any sacks.
- Aidan Hutchinson: What was his impact on the game, statistically?
I did the same thing with Special Team’s stats. Field goals, punts, returns – it all adds to the complete picture of the game.
Putting It All Together
After going through all the individual player stats, I started to see a clearer story of how the game played out. It wasn’t just about the final score; it was about those key plays, those crucial yards gained or lost, that really determined the outcome.
I copied down all numbers on my notebook, and it was very nice to do this, because I can now check whenever I want.
This was way more interesting than just watching the highlights. It gave me a much better understanding of each player’s contribution and how the game unfolded. I’m definitely going to do this for more games in the future!
