Well, let me tell you, I been watchin’ basketball for a long time, longer than some of you young’uns been alive. And I seen a lot of changes in my day. But one thing folks keep askin’ is, “how many quarters in college basketball?” Now, I ain’t no expert, but I’ll tell ya what I know.
You see, them college boys, they play different than the pros. It’s like when you compare my homemade apple pie to that store-bought stuff. Both pie, but not quite the same. Them college basketball fellas, they don’t do quarters. Nope. They got these things called halves. Two of ’em. Like cuttin’ a pie right down the middle.
Each half, they play for 20 minutes. That’s a good chunk of time. Longer than it takes me to shell a bucket of peas, that’s for sure. So, the whole game, you got 20 minutes, then a break, then another 20 minutes. Adds up, don’t it? You got yourself a full 40 minutes of basketball action, without them fancy quarters.
- 20 minutes in the first half
- 20 minutes in the second half
- That’s 40 minutes of playin’ time!
Now, them college girls, they used to play in halves, too. But a few years back, they switched things up. They started playin’ in quarters, just like the pros. Ten minutes each quarter. Four of them quarters make up the whole game. It’s like dividin’ that pie into four pieces instead of two. Still the same amount of pie, just cut different.
Why they do it that way with the boys? I don’t rightly know. Some folks say it makes for a better game, less stoppin’ and startin’. Keeps the flow goin’, like a good river. Less time for them boys to catch their breath, maybe. Keeps ’em runnin’ and makes for closer games, they say. College basketball how many quarters, well, for the men, the answer is none!
And them pros, the ones you see on TV all the time, they got four quarters too. Twelve minutes each. They got more time to play, them fellas. Probably need it with all that money they make, gotta earn their keep, I reckon. But for the college boys, it’s just them two halves. Plain and simple. They say, quarters in college basketball are for the ladies, the boys play different!
So, when you’re sittin’ there watchin’ them college boys run up and down the court, just remember, there ain’t no quarters. Just two halves. Like two halves of a good ol’ biscuit. Each one just as important as the other. It is confusing when you hear about how many quarters in college basketball, since it changes!
And if you ever hear someone talkin’ ’bout quarters in men’s college basketball, you can tell ’em, “No sir, you got it wrong. Them boys play in halves.” You can sound like a real expert, even if you ain’t never played the game yourself. Just like me, I ain’t never played, but I sure have watched a lot of it!
Them college games, they sure are excitin’. Lots of runnin’ and jumpin’, young folks with more energy than a squirrel in a nut factory. And even though they don’t have quarters, they still put on a good show. How many quarters in college basketball may be a question for some, but it is easy to figure out.
So next time you’re watchin’ a game, and someone asks about the quarters, you just set ’em straight. Two halves for the college boys, four quarters for the college girls, and four quarters for them pros. It ain’t rocket science, just basketball. Remember, quarters in college basketball are just for the ladies!
And that’s all there is to it, really. Just like bakin’ a pie, it ain’t as complicated as folks make it out to be. You just gotta know the recipe. And now you know the recipe for college basketball. It’s as easy as pie!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I think I hear my stories callin’. Time for this old gal to rest her weary bones. But you enjoy that basketball, and remember what I told ya. Two halves! That’s the way they do it.
