Okay, so, I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about whether Rick Macci is still coaching Venus Williams. I figured I’d share my little investigation journey with you all because, you know, sharing is caring, right?
First off, I went down the usual internet rabbit hole. I mean, where else do you start these days? I started by searching for anything related to Rick Macci’s current status. Turns out, the guy’s still very much in the game, coaching at his academy in Florida. He’s not just sitting around, he’s active, which is pretty cool.
Then, I dug a bit deeper into the connection between Rick Macci and the Williams sisters, particularly Venus. From what I gathered, Rick was a huge part of Venus and Serena’s early years, like, way back when they were just kids with big dreams. He was their coach until around 1995. That’s a long time ago, right? I mean, those were their formative years, learning the ropes, getting good. He was there shaping their game when they were nine to fifteen years old! He saw them grow, improve. He must have taught them so much!

Now, here’s where it gets interesting. After 1995, their dad, Richard Williams, decided to stop sending them to Rick’s academy. But, and this is a big but, they all remained friends. No bad blood, no drama, just a professional split. But even after their professional split, they still remain friends. That says a lot about their relationship, doesn’t it?
I also stumbled upon some quotes from Rick himself. He talked about how he, along with Venus and Serena’s parents, saw the game through “a different lens” when the girls were young. They were just kids back then, soaking it all in.
So, is he still her coach?
Well, given all that, it’s clear that Rick Macci isn’t Venus Williams’ current coach. She’s all grown up now, has kept going, with no retirement date yet in sight, a total pro, and has been for years. But, Rick played a significant role in her early development, no doubt about that. It seems like they had a great run together, learned a lot from each other, and still have a good relationship.
