Okay, so I saw this thing online about Chris Jones’s 40-yard dash, and I thought, “I gotta try this myself!” I mean, I’m no NFL prospect, but it seemed like a fun challenge.
Getting Started
First, I needed to find a place to actually run. My backyard isn’t big enough, so I headed to the local park. It has a nice, flat grassy area that would work perfectly.
- Find a space: Check!
- Prepare myself : half-Check!
Then I download an APP,I used my phone and a free app to time myself. Good enough for some casual testing, right?.
The First Few Runs
I stretched a bit – didn’t want to pull a hammy or anything – and then I just went for it. My first run? Let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. I felt slow, my form was probably terrible, and I definitely wasn’t breaking any records.I Try and try.I probably looked like a baby giraffe learning to walk.
I did a few more runs, trying to focus on exploding off the line and staying low. Each time, I felt a little bit better, but my times weren’t really improving much.
Adjusting and Improving(maybe?)
I took a short break and watched a couple of YouTube videos on sprinting form.I’m so clever! It is useful. I realized I was taking way too long strides and my arms were all over the place. So, I focused on shorter, quicker steps and pumping my arms straight forward.
And then I was running and running!
The (Approximate) Results
Honestly, I have no idea what my actual 40-yard dash time was. The app I used probably isn’t super accurate, and I’m sure my starting and stopping wasn’t perfect. But, you know what? It was fun! I felt like I got a good workout, and it was a nice change of pace from my usual routine.I think I really did it,In my mind….
Maybe I’ll keep practicing and see if I can actually improve my time. Or maybe I’ll just stick to watching the pros do it. Either way, it was a good reminder that trying new things can be surprisingly enjoyable, even if you’re not very good at them at first. And that, my friends, what I learned today.
