Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my putting lately, and it’s been a real rollercoaster. One day I’m sinking everything, the next I couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. I started thinking, maybe it’s the grip? I’d been using a standard, pretty skinny grip forever, so I figured, why not try something totally different? That’s where the fatso putter grip comes in.

Getting Started
First things first, I went online and ordered a fatso grip. There are a bunch of different brands and sizes, so I just picked one that looked kinda cool and wasn’t crazy expensive. It arrived a few days later, and man, this thing was CHUNKY. Like holding a soda can, almost.
The Messy Part
Now, I’m no expert club builder, but I’ve swapped out grips before. Usually, it’s a pain, but I get it done. This time? Even more of a pain. I used a lot of grip solvent, I mean a LOT, and I still wrestled with that old grip for a good 20 minutes. Finally, with a satisfying pop, it came loose. Seriously, I was sweating.
- Used the hook blade to remove the old grip.
- Apply a generous amount of grip tape.
- Pour the grip solvent into the new grip and also on the tape.
- It’s a very hard work to install, but finally it’s all done.
The Big Test
With the fatso grip finally installed, I headed straight to the practice green. My first impression? Weird. Really weird. It felt so different in my hands, almost like I was holding the putter wrong. But, I stuck with it.
I started with some short putts, just trying to get a feel for it. And you know what? Something clicked. My hands felt so much quieter, more relaxed. I wasn’t gripping the putter for dear life anymore. The stroke felt smoother, more pendulum-like, which is exactly what I was after.
I moved on to longer putts, and the same thing happened. I felt like I had more control over the distance, and my line seemed way more consistent. It’s like the fat grip took away all the little yippy movements I didn’t even realize I was making.

The Results (So Far)
I’ve only played a couple of rounds with the fatso grip, but I’m already seeing a difference. My putting feels way more solid, and I’m definitely making more putts, especially those nervy 4-footers. It’s not a miracle cure, but it’s definitely helped me quiet down my hands and get a smoother stroke. If you’re struggling with your putting, and you’ve tried everything else, it might be worth giving a fatso grip a shot. Just be prepared for a bit of a wrestling match when you’re putting it on!
