So, I was checking out the New York Times crossword the other day, and there was this clue that totally stumped me: “Cap worn by dervishes.” I’m not gonna lie, I had no idea what that even meant. I mean, dervishes? What are those, some kind of mystical creatures? I was completely lost.
I spent a good chunk of time trying to figure it out myself. I racked my brain, thinking of every type of hat I could imagine. I must have come up with a dozen different words, but none of them seemed to fit. It was frustrating, to say the least.
Finally, I decided to swallow my pride and turn to the internet for help. I figured, someone out there must have solved this puzzle before, right? I started googling like a madman, typing in all sorts of variations of the clue. I felt like a detective on a mission, determined to crack the case.
I stumbled upon a few different websites that claimed to have the answer. Some of them were pretty cryptic, others were more straightforward. I saw the clue mentioned as being in the June 2nd, 2024 crossword, so I knew I was on the right track.
- First, I found a site that said the answer was “TAJ.” It took a minute for that to sink in.
- Then, I saw another site that confirmed it: “TAJ” was definitely the answer. They even had a little explanation, saying it was a type of cap.
TAJ! Who would have guessed? It was such a short, simple word, but it totally solved the mystery. I felt a sense of relief wash over me. I finally understood what those crossword puzzle creators were talking about. I guess it is a type of cap, makes sense now that I think about it.
And that was the answer, TAJ.
It was a learning experience, that’s for sure. Now, whenever I see that clue, I’ll know the answer right away. Plus, I learned a new word! Who knew doing crosswords could be so educational?
