Okay, so today I wanted to try my hand at predicting the Canada vs. France women’s soccer match. I’m no expert, but I figured it would be fun to put some thought into it and see how close I could get.

First, I looked up recent match results for both teams. Just kinda skimmed through some sports news sites, you know, the usual spots. Nothing fancy, just wanted to get a general feel for how they’ve been playing lately. I didn’t go super deep, just wanted the headlines, really.
Recent Form
- Checked Canada’s last five or so games. Wins, losses, draws… the basic stuff.
- Did the same for France.
Then, I tried to find out if any key players were injured or suspended. That can make a huge difference, right? A star striker out can totally change a team’s dynamic. Again, I just poked around online, reading some articles, and checking team pages.
Checking the player:
This took more time than searching for a team.
- I compared the players’ abilities.
- I compared the players’ positions.
Next, I considered the playing style of each team. Are they more attacking or defensive? Do they rely on possession or counter-attacks? It’s not like I’m drawing up complex diagrams or anything, I just got a general sense of their tactics from what I’d read and seen before.

I also thought about the context of the match. Is it a friendly? A qualifier? A major tournament? That can affect how teams approach the game, the intensity, and the risk-taking.
Based on all of that very unscientific research, I jotted down my prediction. I won’t say it here ’cause I don’t want to jinx anything, haha! But the point is, it was a fun little exercise. And, you could easily do the same with the players’ data!
It’s not about being right or wrong, it’s about engaging with the sport in a different way. It makes watching the game more interesting when you’ve put some thought into what might happen. Whether I’m close or way off, I’m looking forward to the match!
