Alright, let’s talk about getting that darn red cabbage in Stardew. It felt like a real quest for a while there, not gonna lie.

So, I was cruising along, Year 1, knocking out Community Center bundles left and right. Felt pretty good about my progress. Then I hit the Dye Bundle, or maybe it was the Quality Crops one? Anyway, needed a red cabbage. Looked everywhere. Checked Pierre’s shop week after week. Nothing. Summer rolls around, still nothing. Fall? Nope. Winter? Forget it.
Started asking around, well, reading forums and stuff. Turns out, Pierre doesn’t even stock the seeds until Year 2! Year TWO! I was trying to get that Community Center done ASAP, you know? Felt kinda stuck. Didn’t want to wait a whole other year just for one veggie.
Finding the Secret Weapon
Then someone mentioned the Traveling Cart. You know, that pig-drawn wagon that shows up south of the farm on Fridays and Sundays. I’d bought some random stuff from her before, but never really paid close attention every single time.
So, new plan. Every Friday, every Sunday, first thing I did, basically, was hike down there to see what she had. It became a ritual.
- Wake up.
- Check the TV for luck, doesn’t matter, still going.
- Water crops maybe, pet the cat.
- Run straight south into Cindersap Forest.
- Check her stock.
Most days? Junk. Sometimes a fish I needed, or some random seeds. But no red cabbage. Or red cabbage seeds. For weeks. Months, even, in game time. I think I finished Fall, Year 1, still checking.

Finally! Success!
I was getting seriously annoyed. Thought I might just have to wait for Year 2 like everyone else. Then one Sunday morning, I think it was late Winter, Year 1, I trudged down there, not expecting much.
And there it was. Sitting right there in her inventory. Red Cabbage Seeds! Not even the cabbage itself, the seeds! I practically yelled at the screen. Bought them immediately. Didn’t even care about the price, probably paid way too much for them, knowing that merchant.
Had to wait until Summer of Year 2 to plant them, obviously, since that’s their season. But just having those seeds, knowing I’d beaten the Year 1 restriction? Felt amazing. Planted them right away when Summer hit, grew that beautiful purple head, harvested it, and marched it straight over to the Community Center.
So yeah, that was my red cabbage adventure. Pure luck with the Traveling Cart. If you’re stuck on it in Year 1, just keep checking that cart religiously. It’s a pain, but it can show up. Good luck!
