Okay, so let’s talk about what I did to figure out the BYU depth chart for 2023. It wasn’t as straightforward as you might think, but I got it done.
First, I started by looking up information about the team’s recent practices. I read somewhere that a senior quarterback, Kedon Slovis, was seen throwing a pass during a scrimmage at LaVell Edwards Stadium. That gave me a starting point for the quarterback position.
Then, I watched parts of the team’s practices from the first two weeks. While I was watching, I also gathered some insider info about the team’s players and their performances.
After that, I found out that BYU had released its first depth chart of the season. I took a look, and there were a few surprises in there, which was interesting.
Digging Deeper
I decided to do some more research on specific players. I learned about Jake Retzlaff, who is in his first season as the starting quarterback. Apparently, he transferred to BYU from Riverside City College, where he played at the JUCO level.
- I also read about Will Ferrin, the team’s kicker.
- He came from Boise State.
- It seems like an analyst named Gavin Fowler played a big role in convincing him to come to BYU.
- He won the starting kicker job in the 2023 preseason training camp and has been doing well since then.
Based on my observations from spring practices and the info I gathered, I put together my own projections for the depth chart. It was a bit of a puzzle, but I think I got a pretty good idea of how the team will look in 2023. With Taggart on the team now, things are looking better.
BYU is going to wrap up its Spring camp next week. I’ll keep an eye on any updates and adjust my projections accordingly. Overall, it was a fun and challenging process to figure out the BYU depth chart for this year!
