Alright, so you wanna know about this Ohio State football team, huh? Like, who’s playing where and all that? Okay, okay, I can tell ya what I know. It ain’t gonna be fancy talk, mind you, just plain and simple, like how we talk ’round here.
First off, they got this fella, Will Howard. He’s the quarterback, the guy who throws the ball. They brought him in from somewhere else, Kansas State, I think. Coach Ryan Day, he’s the boss man, he says Will’s the starter. So, that’s that. He’s the one throwing the ball now, got it?
Now, about them other fellas on the offense… That’s the guys who try to score, ya know? They got a bunch of ’em. Running backs, they run the ball. Wide receivers, they catch the ball. And then there’s the big boys, the offensive line. They protect the quarterback, make sure he don’t get squished like a bug. I can’t name ’em all, there’s too many. But they got their jobs to do, and if they do ’em right, they score points.
Then there’s the defense. Their job is to stop the other team from scoring. They got big fellas up front, the defensive line, they try to get to the other quarterback. Then they got linebackers, they run around and tackle folks. And the fellas in the back, the cornerbacks and safeties, they try to stop the other team from catching the ball.
- One fella, Aaron Scott Jr., he’s playing cornerback, important job that is, stopping them other fellas from catching the ball.
- And Ransom, he’s been playing safety since, let me see, 2022 it was. He’s been doing alright, been starting most of the games.
They got a whole bunch of other fellas, backups they call ’em. If somebody gets hurt or tired, the backups go in. It’s like having extra hands on the farm, ya always need extra hands just in case. You can find all them names on somethin’ they call a depth chart. It’s just a list of who plays what, and who’s next in line. You can find it online, I hear. Just search for “Ohio State depth chart” or somethin’ like that. My grandson showed me once, all them fancy computers and such.
This Ohio State team, they practice a lot. Spring practice, they call it. They practice and practice until they get it right. Just like planting corn, you gotta prepare, practice and work hard. Then comes the real games in the fall. That’s when it all counts. Big Ten games, they call ’em. They play Michigan State, and Michigan, and a whole bunch of other teams. If they win enough, they might get to play in a bowl game, that’s a big deal.
They just finished their spring practice, my grandson told me. Said they looked pretty good. But spring ain’t the real thing, ya know? It’s like looking at a calf and guessing how big it’ll get. You don’t really know till it grows up. Same with football. Gotta wait till the fall to see how good they really are.
This here Smith Jr., Will, I keep hearing his name. Seems like he’s important too, always showing up on them lists. Lots of fellas on the team, hard to keep track of ‘em all, I tell ya. They got numbers and positions, all very confusing for an old lady like me. But they all work together, like a team of horses pullin’ a plow.
So there ya have it. That’s what I know about the Ohio State football team. Quarterback, offense, defense, depth chart, the whole shebang. It ain’t rocket science, just football. They run, they throw, they tackle, and they try to win games. And hopefully, they win a whole bunch of ‘em this year, make us proud.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my chickens. They’re more predictable than these football fellas, that’s for sure.
