Alright, so ya wanna know about this Summerslam thing, huh? My grandkids, they watch it, all that wrestlin’ and jumpin’ around. Don’t understand half of it, but they yell and cheer, so I guess it’s somethin’.
They told me this Summerslam, the one in 2024, it was a big deal. Bigger than a barn dance, I tell ya! Said somethin’ about a whole bunch of folks showin’ up, like, more than ever before in America. Fifty-seven thousand somethin’, they said. That’s a whole lotta people, more than folks at the county fair, I reckon.
And the money? Lordy, they said it made more money than anything except that Wrestlemania thing. I don’t know what a Wrestlemania is, but sounds fancy. And them special tickets, the “On Location” ones, they sold a heap more than last year. Heard it was almost half again as many. Folks got money to burn, I guess.
My grandson, little Timmy, he’s always yappin’ about this fella, Dave Meltzer. Says he gives the matches stars, like them fancy hotels. More stars mean better wrestlin’, I figure. So, this Dave fella, he gave out his stars for this Summerslam. Now, I ain’t seen the matches myself, mind you, but Timmy was goin’ on and on about ‘em.
- He said some matches were real barnburners, got a whole bunch of stars.
- Others, well, he said they were kinda like watching paint dry.
- Guess even those fellas havin’ a bad day at the office. Just like us sometimes, right?
Timmy was showin’ me somethin’ on his phone, a bunch of numbers and names. Said it was from this Meltzer fella. Looked like chicken scratch to me, but Timmy sure was excited. He said some matches got four stars, some got three, and some… well, let’s just say they didn’t get many stars at all.
Now, I don’t know nothin’ about wrestlin’ stars. But I know when somethin’s good, and when it ain’t. If a whole mess of folks showed up and spent their hard-earned cash, it must’ve been somethin’ worth seein’. And if it made all that money, well, those wrestlin’ fellas must be doin’ somethin’ right.
This Summerslam thing, it seems like a big to-do. My grandkids, they love it, and that’s good enough for me. They talk about the wrestlers like they’re heroes or somethin’. Reminds me of when I was young, listenin’ to the radio and cheerin’ for them baseball fellas.
And all them folks watchin’ on their phones and computers? Timmy said millions of folks were watchin’ videos of the matches. Millions! That’s more people than I ever seen in my whole life. Guess that’s why they make so much money, huh? More eyes watchin’, more money they make. Simple as that.
Anyway, that’s what I know about this Summerslam. Big crowds, big money, and a whole lotta wrestlin’. My grandkids are happy, so I’m happy. And that’s all that matters, right? Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. Got a hankerin’ for some good ol’ fried chicken.
They said this thing became the most-viewed social Summerslam of all time, too. Millions of videos being watched, Timmy said. Over 230 million views and four million hours of video watched. That’s a lot of time spent watching grown men in tights, but if it makes folks happy then so be it. Makes you wonder what they are all looking at, though. All that jumping and yelling, just like my grandkids in the living room.
So, there you have it. A whole lotta folks, a whole lotta money, and a whole lotta wrestlin’. That’s Summerslam 2024 for ya, as best as I can tell. Now, go on, get outta here, ya botherin’ me. I got things to do.
