So I wanted to see for myself just how fast this Brandon Jacobs guy could run that 40-yard dash everyone’s talking about.
First, I looked up some of his stats online. It said his initial time was 4.64 seconds. Honestly, that seemed kinda slow, and some folks were saying it couldn’t be right. Then I saw he did another run at Alabama’s Pro Day and clocked in at 4.52 seconds. Better, but still, I wanted to put these numbers to the test.
Getting Ready
I got my stopwatch ready, found a good stretch of track, and warmed up a bit. I’m no professional athlete, but I figured I could at least try to replicate the conditions as best I could.
- Warming up: Did some light jogging and stretches. I’m not as young as I used to be, so gotta be careful.
- Setting up: Marked out 40 yards on the track. Used some cones I had lying around.
- Timing: Used my phone’s stopwatch. Not super precise, but it’ll do.
The First Run
Took a deep breath and went for it. Pushed off as hard as I could and just ran. My legs were burning, and I was out of breath by the end, but I made it. Checked my time, and it was way off. No surprise there, haha.
Improving My Technique
I watched some videos of Jacobs running and tried to mimic his form. Long strides, powerful push-off, that sort of thing. It felt awkward at first, but I started to get the hang of it.
- Watching videos: Focused on how he started and how he kept his momentum.
- Practicing form: Tried to copy his stride and arm movements. Looked kinda silly, I bet.
- Resting: Took breaks in between runs to catch my breath.
Getting Closer
After a few more attempts, I started to see some improvement. My times were getting slightly better, and I felt more confident in my technique. Still nowhere near 4.52 seconds, but hey, I’m not an NFL player.
Final Thoughts
This little experiment gave me a newfound respect for what these athletes can do. Running a 4.52-second 40-yard dash is no joke. It takes serious strength, speed, and technique. I might not have matched Jacobs’ time, but I had fun trying and learned a lot in the process. Plus, I got a good workout in, so that’s always a win!
