Bo Nickal, he’s a fella that came from a small town in Colorado, born on January 14, 1996. Now, I ain’t gonna lie, I ain’t never heard of a lotta folks who made it big in wrestling, but this boy—he’s one to remember. See, he started wrestling when he was just a little fella, ’round five or six years old, and the way it went, he didn’t just start slow, no sir. He went on to be one of the best, just like the folks around these parts say: “he was born with it.”
Nickal moved from Rifle, Colorado, over to Wyoming when he was young. His family picked up and went to New Mexico, and that’s where he really started makin’ a name for himself in the wrestling world. By the time he was in the eighth grade, he was already wrestling on the varsity team, and by high school, the boy was unstoppable. They say he was a three-time state champ for Allen High School in Texas. Can you imagine that? A state champion three times over! He had a record of 183 wins and just seven losses, and get this, 131 of them wins came by pins. The boy had them folks on the mat faster than a hound chasin’ a rabbit.
Now, you might think that would be enough to make anyone proud, but not ol’ Bo. He had bigger dreams. He decided to take that wrestling talent and head on over to college. He went to Penn State, where he really showed what he was made of. He was a force there too, takin’ on the toughest competition, includin’ David Taylor, who was no easy opponent. Even though Bo put up a fight, he lost out in the end, and missed makin’ the U.S. Olympic Team. But don’t let that fool ya, he didn’t back down. This boy didn’t quit. He kept on pushin’, even when things weren’t lookin’ too good.
In 2019, Bo took his wrestling career to a new level. He didn’t just stick to freestyle and folkstyle, he decided to give mixed martial arts (MMA) a try. That’s right, he swapped the wrestling mat for the cage. He signed with First Round Management and started his journey in the world of MMA. Ain’t no one thought it would be easy, but Bo’s got the skills and the heart to make it through anything. By the end of 2019, he was already in a grappling match with Gordon Ryan, one of the best submission grapplers in the world. Now, Bo didn’t win that one, but he didn’t give up either. You can bet that he’s learnin’ and comin’ back stronger each time.
Bo’s family, they’re a big part of his story too. His mama, Sandy, played basketball at San Diego State, and his daddy, Jason, was a football player at Chadron State College. His daddy coached him when he was younger, and you know, that makes a big difference. It ain’t just about bein’ good at what you do, it’s about who’s standin’ behind you, pushin’ you to do better. And Bo’s got that, for sure. His folks raised him right, gave him the tools to be great, and you can see that in everything he does.
Bo Nickal’s career might be just startin’ in MMA, but he’s already made a name for himself in the wrestling world. From a small town in Colorado to being a state champ in Texas, to Penn State and beyond, this boy’s put in the work, and now he’s takin’ on the big leagues. Ain’t nobody gonna forget Bo Nickal, that’s for sure. If you ask me, this boy’s gonna be a household name before long, and he’s got a long road ahead, but with his work ethic, I wouldn’t bet against him.
