Okay, so I’ve been meaning to check out this “The Rock” place at Hofstra University for a while now. I kept hearing about it, seeing pictures, the whole deal. So, today, I finally decided to just go for it.
First thing I did was try to figure out where exactly this thing was. I mean, Hofstra’s campus is pretty big. I did some digging, asked around a bit, classic me style .Turns out, it’s right near the student center, which makes sense.
Finding The Rock
I walked over to the student center, and honestly, it was pretty easy to spot. It’s this big, well, rock, with tons of paint layers on it. You can tell it’s been painted over and over again, year after year, by different student groups.
I spent some time just looking at it, It was my first time, haha.
- I saw some fraternity and sorority letters, of course.
- There were some messages about upcoming events.
- And then just some random, colorful designs.
I even took a few pictures. It’s one of those things you just have to see for yourself, you know? I was thinking, I wonder who painted this thing last? How long does the paint even last before someone else paints over it?

My Own Mark?
I have to say it is really *,I get why people like to come here.
It’s like this living, breathing piece of campus history, constantly changing. I even had this crazy thought for a second, like, “Should I grab some paint and add my own little mark?” But then I realized I’d probably make a mess, and I didn’t have any paint anyway. Maybe next time, I really mean it!
Overall, it was a fun little adventure. It’s not every day you go exploring a giant, painted rock, right? If you’re ever at Hofstra, I definitely recommend checking it out. Just don’t forget your camera! and paints!
