Hey guys, I’ve been digging into something interesting lately and thought I’d share my findings with you all. I got curious about how much those Canadian football players, the CFL guys, actually make. It’s a bit of a rabbit hole, but I’ve managed to piece together a rough picture.
So, I started poking around, you know, just browsing through various sports websites and forums. I wasn’t really sure what to expect, to be honest. I mean, we always hear about the crazy salaries in the NFL, but what about the CFL? It’s a whole different ball game up north.
After a few hours of digging, I started to see some numbers thrown around. The average salary of CFL players seems to be somewhere around $80,000 to $90,000 per year. But, of course, that’s just an average. Some of these guys are making way more, especially the star quarterbacks. I even read about some players raking in over $400,000! That’s some serious cash.

But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. I found out that a player’s salary depends on a bunch of factors. Like, how long they’ve been in the league, what position they play, and, of course, how good they are. It makes sense, I guess. The better you are, the more you get paid.
I also stumbled upon some interesting stats. Apparently, about 19% of CFL players are rookies, and the average player has been in the league for about three years. It’s a tough gig, and not everyone makes it big. I read somewhere that the salary for referees in the CFL is between $40,000 to $90,000 per season.
Now, I know these CFL salaries aren’t exactly NFL level, but they’re still pretty decent. I mean, compared to what most people our age are making, these guys are doing alright. Some of them are even in the top 1% of income earners in Canada! That’s wild, right?
Anyway, I just thought it was a cool little research project to share. It’s always interesting to see how much professional athletes are making, even if it’s not the mega-millions we see in other leagues.
