Okay, so yesterday I was messing around with this thing called “anne de paula,” right? I had no freaking clue what it was at first, just saw some cool images online and thought, “Yeah, I gotta try and recreate that.”

First off, I started by just googling “anne de paula tutorial.” Found a bunch of stuff, mostly vague descriptions and some artsy-fartsy videos. Nothing concrete, you know? So, I decided to wing it.
I figured it had something to do with image manipulation. So, I grabbed Photoshop – yeah, I know, basic – and started playing around with some stock photos. I found this picture of a girl looking kinda dreamy, thought it would work well.
Then I began layering images. It was a total mess. I threw in some textures – old paper, scratches, you name it. Just kept piling them on, changing the blending modes, messing with the opacity. It looked like garbage.
Here’s where things started to click (sort of): I realized it wasn’t just about slapping textures on top. It was about creating depth. So, I started using the burn and dodge tools to subtly darken and lighten areas. Made a huge difference.
Next, I played with color grading. I added a subtle vintage filter, warmed up the tones a bit. Then, I messed with the curves to create a faded look. It still looked a bit digital, so I added some noise – just a tiny bit, enough to break up the smoothness.

- Layer 1: Original image
- Layer 2: Textures (various blending modes)
- Layer 3: Burn/Dodge
- Layer 4: Color Grading (curves, filters)
- Layer 5: Noise
It took me, like, five hours, and it’s still not perfect. But hey, it’s a start. I learned a ton about layering and blending. I’ll probably try it again next week, maybe with different textures and a different photo. Who knows, maybe I’ll actually figure out what “anne de paula” really is.
Anyway, that was my day. Total chaos, but kinda fun. Now, I’m gonna go grab a beer. Peace out!
