Okay, so let me tell you about this whole “Andrew Jacobs football” thing I’ve been messing around with. It all started pretty simple, just saw some highlights online and thought, “Hey, that looks kinda fun, I wonder if I can do that?” Spoiler alert: I’m no Andrew Jacobs, not even close, but I did learn a few things.

First, I dug around online trying to find out more about his specific training. Couldn’t find much concrete stuff, just a lot of hype videos. So, I figured, gotta start with the basics. What do football players actually do? I mean besides the obvious game-day stuff. I hit YouTube HARD.
I watched a ton of videos on:
- Agility drills: Cone drills, ladder drills, all that jazz. Looked easy enough on video. It’s not.
- Strength training: Squats, deadlifts, bench press, the whole shebang. I’d been lifting weights before, but never with a football focus.
- Footwork: This was probably the hardest part. Trying to mimic the way those guys move, shift their weight, explode off the line… man, it’s tough.
So, I started small. Really small. Like, pathetic small. I’m talking about wobbling through cone drills and barely being able to squat my own bodyweight without terrible form. Humbling, to say the least.
I spent a few weeks just focusing on building a base level of strength and agility. Nothing fancy, just consistent work. Three days a week of lifting, two days of agility drills. I even started doing some light jogging, because let’s be real, running is important in football.
Then, I tried throwing a football. Oh boy. I mean, I thought I knew how to throw a football. Turns out, I was mostly just chucking it and hoping for the best. So, more YouTube! I watched videos on grip, technique, release point, the whole shebang.

I spent hours in the park just throwing the ball against a wall, trying to get the spiral right. My arm was killing me! Eventually, I started to get a little bit better. Still not great, but better.
The biggest challenge was definitely the footwork and coordination. Trying to combine the agility drills with the throwing motion… I felt like I was all arms and legs, just flailing around. It took a lot of practice, a lot of repetition, and a lot of looking like an idiot in the park, but eventually, things started to click.
I’m still nowhere near Andrew Jacobs level, obviously. But I can now throw a decent spiral (sometimes), I can run through a cone drill without completely embarrassing myself, and I’ve definitely gotten stronger. It’s been a fun little project, and it’s given me a new appreciation for the athleticism of football players. Now I just need to find some people to actually play with!
