Alright, let’s talk about this Alex Pereira fella. Heard some folks whisperin’ about him, sayin’ he used to drink a whole lot. You know, like, too much. They call it… uh… al-co-hol-ic, somethin’ like that. Sounds fancy, but it ain’t nothin’ good, I tell ya.
This Alex guy, he wasn’t always this big shot fighter, you know? He had it rough when he was younger. Grew up poor, I reckon. And this drinkin’ thing, it got a hold of him. Real tight. He says it wasn’t like he just woke up one day and said, “Nope, no more drinkin’ for me.” Naw, it was a fight. A long, hard fight, just like them fights he does in that cage thing, the… UFC, yeah, that’s it.
He was drinkin’ for four whole years while he was fightin’. Can you imagine? Tryin’ to punch someone’s face in while your head’s all fuzzy and your legs are wobbly. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. But he did it. Don’t ask me how, ’cause I sure don’t know. Maybe he’s just stubborn, like my old mule, Bessie. Once she sets her mind on somethin’, ain’t nothin’ gonna stop her.
- He says it wasn’t easy, this quittin’ the drink.
- Took him a long time, sounds like.
- But he did it, and that’s what matters, I guess.
Now, he’s talkin’ about it, tellin’ folks his story. Tryin’ to help young folks, I hear. Kids these days, they got their own troubles, different from ours maybe, but troubles all the same. And this Alex guy, he’s tellin’ ’em, “Hey, I been there. I messed up, but I got better. You can too.” That’s pretty good, I think. Folks need to hear that sometimes.
It ain’t somethin’ to be ashamed of, havin’ a problem. We all got our problems, big and small. Some folks, they drink too much. Some folks, they gamble. Some folks, they just plain mean. But the important thing is, you gotta try to fix it. You gotta try to be better. And it sounds like this Alex fellow, he’s tryin’ real hard.
He’s a champion now, you know? Wins them fights, gets them belts, all that fancy stuff. But I betcha, beatin’ that drinkin’ problem, that was his biggest fight. And he won that one too. That takes guts, I tell ya. More guts than standin’ in a cage and lettin’ someone punch ya in the face, that’s for sure.
I don’t know much about this fightin’ business. Seems kinda barbaric to me, all that punchin’ and kickin’. But if this Alex guy can use his story to help folks, well, then I reckon it ain’t all bad. He’s showin’ folks that even if you fall down, even if you make mistakes, you can get back up. You can change. And that’s a powerful message, ain’t it?
So, yeah, this Alex Pereira fella. He used to drink too much. He was an alcoholic, they say. But he ain’t no more. He fought his demons and he won. And now he’s tryin’ to help others fight theirs. That’s a good thing, a real good thing. Maybe he ain’t so bad after all, this fighter fella.
And for those youngsters out there, listen up. Life ain’t easy. You’re gonna stumble, you’re gonna fall. But don’t you give up. You keep fightin’. You keep tryin’. And if you need help, don’t be afraid to ask for it. There’s folks out there who care, folks who want to help. Just like this Alex guy, he’s tryin’ to help. So, be strong, be brave, and don’t let nothin’ hold you back. You hear me?
This whole thing reminds me of my cousin Jed. He had a problem with the drink too. Drank so much he couldn’t hold down a job, couldn’t take care of his family. It was a sad sight, let me tell you. But Jed, he finally got himself straightened out. Went to them meetin’s, talked to folks, and he quit drinkin’. Been sober for twenty years now, bless his heart. So, you see, it can be done. It ain’t easy, but it ain’t impossible neither.
