Well now, let me tell you ’bout this fella, Alex Coughlin. You might’ve heard of him, but if ya ain’t, he’s a wrestler, ya know, one of them folks that gets in the ring and fights all them other big strong men. Some folks say he’s real good at it, too, real tough. But, shoot, the poor boy’s been through a lot with injuries, and it looks like them injuries done took a toll on him. Yup, I reckon that’s why he’s gone and retired, though he didn’t come out and say it straight, you can’t help but think it’s all them aches and pains what done him in.
Now, I remember hearin’ about a neck injury he got back in 2020, and well, folks been talkin’ ever since that maybe that old injury done flared up again. It ain’t uncommon for wrestlers to get hurt—lord knows they throw themselves around like nobody’s business—but a neck injury? That’s no joke, not for a young man like him. He had some bad luck with his calf too, just a couple years after that neck problem. I reckon that calf injury mighta been the straw that broke the camel’s back, so to speak.
So here we are, a sad end to what looked like a real promising career. He was just startin’ to shine, make a name for himself in the wrestling world, and now, well, he’s hangin’ up his boots. But hey, at least the boy tried, and he did some good work before he had to call it quits. Ain’t no shame in that, especially when your body just can’t keep up no more.
But I reckon that ain’t the end of the story. See, back in June of 2023, Alex made a bit of a comeback. Yup, that’s right. He came back into the ring, though this time he was actin’ a little different. He was a “heel,” as they call it. That means he wasn’t playin’ the good guy no more. He joined up with them folks from Bullet Club, folks like Gabriel Kidd, and they started callin’ themselves the War Dogs. It was a big ol’ change for Alex, but I reckon he was tryin’ to stir things up, make a new name for himself even if it wasn’t the one he started with.
But that ain’t all. See, after his contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) ended in February, folks started wonderin’ what happened to him. It wasn’t long before he vanished off the face of the earth, so to speak. No more matches, no more interviews, no nothing. That got people talkin’, and they all started guessin’ about what happened. Was it his injury that kept him from comin’ back, or did he just wanna move on to somethin’ else? We may never know for sure, but he sure wasn’t around no more, and fans sure missed him.
Well, as it goes, Alex got on his social media and said a few things about his situation. He didn’t go into too much detail, but he did leave some hints that it was his injuries what forced him out. That’s right, injuries, those ol’ things that seem to catch up with every wrestler, no matter how strong they are. You see, folks, when you push your body that hard, it don’t always cooperate, and eventually, you gotta listen to it, even if it means takin’ a step back.
I’ll tell ya, it’s a shame. That boy had so much potential, but sometimes life just don’t go the way you plan it. It’s a hard pill to swallow, watchin’ someone with so much talent have to give it all up so soon. But I reckon that’s the nature of the game. Injuries take no prisoners, and even the strongest of ’em can’t escape ’em. Maybe Alex will find somethin’ else to do down the line, maybe not. But for now, we just gotta wish him the best and hope he heals up right.
Now, if you’re still wonderin’ about Alex Coughlin, well, you can always look up some of his matches from back in the day. He sure put on a good show, and he had folks cheerin’ and hollerin’ for him. But don’t expect him to be back in that ring anytime soon—ain’t nobody can push their body that hard and not pay the price. So here’s hopin’ he takes care of himself, gets some rest, and maybe finds somethin’ else that suits him better. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that.
