Alright, so I’ve been a huge fan of AJ Styles since, like, forever. I remember watching him back in the TNA days and just being blown away. Then, when he finally came to WWE, I was hyped! I knew he was gonna kill it, and boy, did he ever. So, I decided to sit down and really go through all of his WWE matches and figure out which ones were the absolute best. It was a tough job, let me tell you, but someone had to do it, right?
First, I had to figure out where to even begin. I mean, the guy has had so many awesome matches. I started by making a list of all the matches that immediately came to mind. You know, the ones that just stuck with me over the years. This included some of his big pay-per-view matches and even some random ones from SmackDown. I scribbled them all down on a notepad, just to get everything organized in my head.
Next, I dove into the WWE Network. Thank goodness for that thing, am I right? I started rewatching all the matches on my list, one by one. I was taking notes like a madman, jotting down all the crazy spots, the near falls, the crowd reactions—everything. It was a real trip down memory lane, seeing how much he’s evolved as a performer and how he always delivers.
Then came the hard part: narrowing it down. This took days, maybe even weeks. I was constantly shuffling things around, comparing my notes, and rewatching certain matches multiple times. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything or being influenced by recent memory. My wife even started to think I was losing my mind, spending my nights watching wrestling and scribbling notes!
After much deliberation, lots of coffee, and probably too much screen time, I finally nailed down my top 5. And let me tell you, it was a doozy of a list.
- John Cena (SummerSlam 2016) – This one, folks, this one was just pure magic. The chemistry these two had was insane. I still get chills thinking about it. The back-and-forth action, the false finishes, it was a classic for the ages.
- John Cena (Royal Rumble 2017) – I’ve got to give it to Cena, the guy knows how to bring the best out of AJ. This match was another masterpiece, and it was for the WWE Championship, no less!
- Rey Mysterio – Watching these two go at it was like watching a masterclass in high-flying wrestling. Just breathtaking stuff.
- Kevin Owens – These two always had great matches. The intensity was always there and the matches always delivered.
- Dean Ambrose – A solid match. It was physical and brutal, and it told a great story.
So there you have it, my personal journey to determine the best AJ Styles matches in WWE. It was a fun, albeit long, process. I hope this inspires you to go back and watch some of these classics yourself. Trust me, you won’t regret it. What a ride, right?
