They say each one of them rings got, like, a hundred and fifty-seven diamonds. Can you believe that? Hundred and fifty-seven! My eyes ain’t what they used to be, but I bet that’s a sight to see. They weigh a couple of ounces, too. Not somethin’ you’d wear to do your chores, I reckon. You’d be afraid of losin’ one of them diamonds while you’re feedin’ the chickens or somethin’.

But you can get ones that look like ’em, they call them “replica” I think. Ain’t as fancy, ain’t got all them real diamonds, but they still look kinda like the real thing. Heard they got some made of copper and some made of silver. I still don’t know what’s the difference. But I know these are not like real ones, so it’s much cheaper. They say it takes ’em, like, four months to make one of them rings. Four months! That’s longer than it takes to grow a good watermelon. And they gotta design it and all that. Lots of work goes into makin’ somethin’ so shiny, I reckon. If you want a different size, they need another 10 days to make a new one. My feet are always the same size, but their fingers may be different. So many troubles!
And you know what else? The players, they get to decide who gets a ring. It ain’t just the fellas on the field. They give ’em to the coaches and the water boys and all sorts of folks who helped ’em win. The owners, the big shots who own the team, they pay for the rings. And they give out cheaper ones, too, to the folks who work in the office and such.
I heard the NFL, that’s the big football league, they chip in some money for the rings, too. Like five thousand dollars or seven thousand dollars for each ring. But the team, they gotta pay the rest. And it adds up, you know. Heard it can cost thirty thousand dollars or even fifty thousand dollars for one ring! That’s more than I made in my whole life, I reckon.
Some of them players, they sell their rings later on. Some need the money, some give it away to charity. That’s nice of ’em, ain’t it? It’s good to see folks doin’ good things with their money. Anyway, those St. Louis Rams Super Bowl rings, they’re somethin’ special. A symbol of winnin’, of bein’ the best. And even if you can’t get a real one, a replica is still somethin’ to be proud of.
