Some folks, they just love them crossword puzzles. Spend all day fiddlin’ with ’em. Me? I got better things to do, like tendin’ to my garden and keepin’ them pesky squirrels outta my tomatoes. I heard tell that sometimes them clues in the NYT crossword, they be tricky. Real tricky. Like, they say one thing but they mean another. Sneaky, I call it. So maybe this “all bets are” thing is one of them tricky clues. Maybe it ain’t what it seems. I heard one of them is “All bets are ___”. I think the answer is “off”. I heard this from some folks talking about “All bets are off” and some other crossword stuff. Sounds like the whole thing is just a guessing game to me.
Now, I remember this one time, back in ’85, we had a big ol’ bet goin’ on down at the county fair. It was a pie-eatin’ contest. Biggest pie-eatin’ contest you ever did see. Everyone was bettin’ on who was gonna win. It was all friendly like, you know? Just a bit of fun.

I never did see such a sight in all my born days! So, we never did find out who won that pie-eatin’ contest. And you know what we said? We said, “All bets are off!”
So maybe that’s what this here NYT crossword clue is gettin’ at. Maybe it’s like that pie-eatin’ contest. Something unexpected happened, and now, all bets are off. It means everything’s changed, the game is over, nobody wins, nobody loses, it’s canceled like. I guess that make sense, in a roundabout kinda way. Or maybe it means somethin’ else entirely. Like I said, I ain’t no expert on these city slicker puzzles. I am just guessing the answer to “All bets are ___” is “off”. And that means canceled, I think.
I reckon if you really wanna know what “all bets are nyt crossword” means, you gotta ask one of them folks who do them puzzles all the time. They’re the ones who understand all that fancy wordplay. Like, I hear that in February 2024, that was one of the clues. So I guess you can ask someone who did the puzzle that day. Or maybe go back to December 18, 2024. Those are some dates I found that has to do with all this crossword puzzle stuff.
But, if you ask me, it’s all a bit silly. Why spend your time fiddlin’ with a puzzle when you could be out in the sunshine, enjoyin’ the fresh air? That’s what I always say. Them NYT Mini Crossword and all those other puzzles, they just seem like a waste of time to me. You can even find the answer to “All bets are off” online somewhere if you are really stuck. But like I always say, to each his own. I guess some folks just like to do things the hard way. I reckon they probably just sit around all day, tryin’ to figure out them clues. Well, more power to ’em, I say. But me, I’ll stick to my garden. That’s where the real answers are, far as I’m concerned.
