You know, this Shaka Smart, he’s a basketball coach, a real big shot. I hear folks talking about him all the time. They say he’s good, real good. This Shaka Smart basketball coach, he’s the one they talk about.
He used to be at some place called Texas, I reckon. Stayed there for six years, they say. Six whole years! That’s a long time, ain’t it? Then he went to some other place, Marquette. Don’t know where that is, but it sounds fancy.
They say he’s a good coach, this Shaka Smart. He gets those boys to run and jump and throw that ball. He must be doing something right, right? They say he got all excited, makes the players get all worked up too.
He learned from some other fellas, I hear. Some guy named Oliver Purnell. He was a coach too, at a place called Dayton. Must be where this Shaka fella learned all his tricks. You gotta learn from someone, right? You ain’t born knowin’ everything.
These basketball coaches, they gotta be smart, I guess. Gotta know how to make those boys play good. Gotta know all the rules and such. Gotta yell and holler at ’em when they ain’t doing right. This Shaka Smart he must be a smart one. And he got some good experience too! Some is from Texas, some is from Marquette, I think.

They talk about “team culture.” I don’t rightly know what that means, but it sounds important. Like having good soil for your tomatoes. Gotta have good dirt if you want them to grow big and juicy. This Shaka, he must know how to make that “team culture” good. They are all important for a good basketball coach, you know.
Now, why he left Texas, nobody seems to rightly know. They say he wasn’t fired, just went on to Marquette, it was his choice. You know how folks like to gossip. Probably something about winning, they say. These coaches, they always want to win. They never get fired, they just leave, just like Shaka.
This Shaka Smart basketball coach, he’s something else, ain’t he? He’s got everyone talking. Must be doing something right. They say he went to sweet sixteen, I don’t know what sweet sixteen means, but it sounds great to me.
These young folks today, they sure do love their basketball. And this Shaka Smart, he’s right in the middle of it all. He’s a big deal, I reckon. This Shaka Smart basketball coach is the one they all want to be like. You know, if you want to be a coach, you should be like Shaka.
He’s probably a busy fella, always traveling, always hollering at those boys. But that’s what it takes to be a good coach, I suppose. Gotta work hard, gotta know your stuff. And this Shaka Smart, he seems to know his stuff, alright. So many people like him, so he must be good.
