Well, let me tell ya ’bout this Carson Benge fella and this here “mock draft” thing. I ain’t no fancy expert, but I can tell ya what I hear ’em talkin’ ’bout.
This Carson Benge, he’s a young’un, plays baseball for that Oklahoma State place. Folks say he’s real good, hittin’ the ball hard and throwin’ it fast too. They call him a “draft eligible sophomore outfielder.” Sounds like a mouthful, don’t it? Means he’s in his second year of college and them big league teams can pick him if they want.
- Heard tell he smacked 18 home runs last year. That’s a lot, even for a strong boy.
- And they say he hit .335. That means he got a hit ’bout every three times he went up to bat. Pretty good, I reckon.
- Folks also sayin’ he can throw that ball mighty fast, ’bout 97 miles per hour. Faster than my old man’s truck, that’s for sure.
Now, this “mock draft,” that’s where them fellas who know baseball try to guess which team’s gonna pick which player. It’s like a guessing game, but these fellas take it real serious. They got all sorts of numbers and grades, talkin’ ’bout “hit tools” and “power” and such. Makes my head spin, it does.
They got this fella, Jonathan Mayo, he works for somethin’ called “MLB Pipeline.” Sounds like pipes to me, but I guess it’s a baseball thing. Anyways, this Mayo fella, he put out his guess on who’s gonna get picked where. And this Carson Benge, he’s up there pretty high on the list.
They sayin’ Benge could go anywhere in the top 10 picks. That’s a big deal, see? Means he’s one of the best young players in the whole country. They give him these “scouting grades,” like 55 for hittin’, 55 for power, and 60 for his arm. Don’t rightly know what it all means, but sounds like he’s pretty good at everything.
But it ain’t always been easy for this boy, no sir. Heard tell his elbow went out on him a couple years back, right before he was supposed to start playin’ at Oklahoma State. That’s a tough break, havin’ your arm go bad like that. But he worked hard, I guess, and got himself better.
Now, some folks are sayin’ he’s the “most fluid prospect” in the draft. That just means nobody’s quite sure where he’s gonna land. Some teams might need a hitter, some might need a thrower, and some might need both. It all depends on what the teams are lookin’ for.
It ain’t just this year they’re lookin’ at players, though. They already talkin’ ’bout next year’s draft, and the year after that. They got lists and rankings for all them young’uns, tryin’ to figure out who’s gonna be the next big star. They even got somethin’ called “Competitive Balance rounds” for the 2025 draft. Don’t ask me what that means, I ain’t got a clue.
This Carson Benge kid, he slashed .345/.468/.538 last year with 42 somethin’ or other. Them numbers don’t mean much to me, but I reckon they’re important to them baseball fellas. All I know is, the boy can play ball, and he’s got a chance to make it big.
So, that’s the lowdown on this Carson Benge mock draft. A bunch of fellas guessin’ where a young baseball player’s gonna go play. It’s a lot of fuss, if you ask me, but that’s how they do things in the big leagues. Me, I’m just happy to see a young fella doin’ well, elbow and all. He seems like a good kid, and I hope he goes far.
And as for that mock draft? Well, it’s just a guess. Nobody really knows what’s gonna happen ’til draft day comes. But it’s fun to speculate, I guess. Keeps them baseball fellas busy, and gives us somethin’ to talk about down at the diner. So, we will see how it all shakes out for this carson benge and the upcoming baseball draft. It’s sure to be excitin’ times for him and all them other young fellas hopin’ to make it big.
Remember what I told ya, it’s just a guessing game and this carson benge, he’s a good player, elbow trouble or not. Them teams would be lucky to have him. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my tomatoes. Them critters been gettin’ at ’em again, you know.
