Alright, let’s talk about this baseball game, the Oakland Athletics versus the Yankees. Don’t know much about fancy stats or nothin’, but I watched the game, and I can tell ya who did good and who didn’t.

First off, that Yankees fella, Gerrit Cole. He was somethin’ else, that one. Pitched a whole game, almost didn’t let them Athletics score at all. Heard someone sayin’ it was a “perfect game” or somethin’. Sounds important, I guess. Means he was real good, kept them Athletics boys from hittin’ the ball much. He’s a strong pitcher, you know? Throws that ball hard.
Then there’s this other Yankee, Aaron Judge. Big fella, hits the ball a country mile. Seems like every time he’s up, he’s hittin’ a home run. Heard they said he hit 54, then 55 home runs this year? That’s a whole lot of home runs! He must be eatin’ his Wheaties! I tell you what, when he’s up to bat, you just know somethin’ big is gonna happen.
And that Giancarlo Stanton fella, he hit a big one too, a “three-run drive” they called it. Means he got three fellas home, I reckon. That’s good, real good for the Yankees. They got some powerful hitters on that team, that’s for sure.
Now, them Athletics, they had a few good moments too. That Seth Brown, he hit a home run. And that young fella, Esteury Ruiz, he got a run and stole a base. Heard they said he stole 40 bases this year? That’s a lot of runnin’! He’s quick, like a rabbit. But mostly, them Athletics, they just couldn’t get much goin’ against the Yankees’ pitchers.
- Yankees Pitching: Gerrit Cole was real good, shut down the Athletics. Other pitchers probably did alright too, but Cole was the star.
- Yankees Hitting: Aaron Judge hit a whole bunch of home runs, Giancarlo Stanton had that big three-run hit. They got some power.
- Athletics Hitting: Seth Brown hit a home run, Esteury Ruiz was fast and stole bases. But they didn’t score much overall.
- Athletics Pitching: Didn’t hear much about them, so I guess they weren’t too good. Yankees scored a lot, so their pitchers musta been havin’ trouble.
They had a game in May, and the Yankees won. Then another one in May, Yankees won that one too. Then they played again in September, and the Yankees beat ‘em 10-0. That’s what they call a “shutout,” I think. Means the Athletics didn’t score at all. Tough game for them, I reckon.

So, lookin’ at the stats, the Yankees are the better team. They got the better pitchers, the better hitters. Them Athletics, they got some good players, but they just ain’t as strong as the Yankees. That’s just how it is sometimes. You got your strong teams and your not-so-strong teams.
Now, I don’t know all them fancy numbers and percentages, but I can see with my own two eyes who’s playin’ good and who ain’t. And the Yankees, they were playin’ real good. Them Athletics, they need to practice more, maybe eat more Wheaties like Aaron Judge. That’s what I think anyways.
One thing is for sure, baseball is a long season. You win some, you lose some. Them Athletics, they’ll have their day. Maybe not against the Yankees this year, but they’ll keep tryin’. That’s all you can do, you know? Just keep tryin’.
Anyway, that’s how I see it, just an old woman watchin’ a ball game.
